What am I missing

Description
I keep seeing that Stammer and Kuch are coming back for the playoffs, and I don't see anyone currently out long term with a relevant cap hit besides who's already on LTIR and Barclay Goodrow... so, I've got to ask: what am I missing?

Even if you put players like Tyler Johnson or something on the taxi squad or in the minors, that only takes 1mil off. Are they really gonna put 7 or 8 starting players on the taxi squad to make this work? Is there some loop hole if the player doesn't play the season that their cap hit is lower in the playoffs? How else do you make up for 7.6million right now?

Don't pay too much attention to the lineup and the taxi squad, was just trying to see how it would work. All the cap hits are pretty much the same regardless

They don’t have to hit 81.5 for playoffs. Just can’t add players.

What? That's insane. Any chance you know where that ruling is? I'm checking the CBA section on here (granted, not reading every word, but CTRL Fing "playoffs") and not seeing anything about that

I don't exactly know where it is and CapFriendly doesn't have every rule here, most are basic ones. You should look in the NHL CBA (although it might take you some time).

Here's how the cap/roster limits work:

- Offseason/Preseason: No roster limit, can only go over the salary cap by 10% (Currently 89,650,000)

- Regular season up to trade deadline: 23 man roster, cannot exceed the team's daily salary cap (starts at 81.5, grows based on how much cap space a team has)

- Day of trade deadline to end of regular season: no roster limits, but cannot exceed the salary cap

- Playoffs: no roster limit, no cap

- End of playoffs: off-season mode (can't exceed cap by 10%)

Thank you. I knew about the rest, but I had no idea playoffs didn't have a cap limit or even roster limit... that's pretty crazy. I wonder if the NHL regulates LTIR players to avoid massive loopholes like this. You just gotta wonder how Kuch and Stammer will magically be ready for game 1... though, it's a risk TBL takes I guess given no warm up games for Kuch. Thanks a bunch for the info!

Just for clarity I didn't think you were lying or anything, I was just really curious about it. I think it's a pretty decent sized loop hole teams can take advantage of at the TDL and stuff if they've got injuries. But, it's fair game for everyone I suppose

Yes, that's why some teams can add more players at the deadline if they have a player on long-term injury reserve at that time and then activate him in the playoffs.
