Buffalo probably declines, this isn't what they will be looking for in a trade.

No one. What I’m trying to say is that we should keep the core and look to trade for a player that wouldn’t require anyone from the core. Someone where we could trade White + B+ prospect + 7-9th overall for

Ah. Just confusing because you replied to his trade which just had pinto and brannstrom taht they shouldn’t trade anyone from the core.

Yeah my bad , I didn’t explain myself. I mean you can technically say Brannstrom is playing himself into the core but he’s not there yet

Under pay? A top 5 pick, a top 10 pick, 2 decent young players. What else needs to be added?

Better than “decent young players.”
Buffalo is going to want some young NHL talent. They don’t want pinto, they want batherson. They don’t want brannstrom, they want Sanderson. It’s really unprecedented to move a guy of eichel’s caliber at his age, and with five years term left on his deal. A couple firsts and a couple “decent young players,” doesn’t do it. Realistically, in four years, all of those assets could not be in the NHL. They’ll need someone they know can play.

Your standards for very good may have fallen over the last few years. I think he can be a third pair guy with some powerplay upside.

You’re expecting too much from a 21 year old Dman in his 1st year playing consistent minutes. He’s been a better PP QB than Chabot this year, any Sens fan would agree with me. he’s undersized but does use his positioning to play defence and he’s okay at it. It’s still his first year but definitely not as bad as Quinn Hughes defensively or anything close to that

Sabres competition for an 10m Eichel trade is cap space. Ottawa declines that trade....Ottawa will be much better off in the future with 1m Brannerstrom, 1 m Pinto, and those 3 high drafts and 8m in cap space to spend on a very good UFA. Sorry Sabres fan....I don't know why you expect immediate on ice value and a whack of future for Eichel. Ain't happening.

It’s not unprecedented, Boston trades joe Thornton when he still had 2 years left on his contract, during the same season Thornton won the art ross. The return was... underwhelming to say the least.

This is a much better return in this scenerio, and is pure futures which is what buffalo is looking for as they are planing on entering another rebuild.

Eichel may be a top 10 centre in the NHL but his trade value is weakened by his reluctance to stay in buffalo, his injury this year, and his cap hit. Look at every other trade for a top player in the past 10 years. Outside of the Matt Duchene deal, pretty much every one has been underhwleming

So, the best example you can find is from 16 years ago, and the guy had two years, rather than five left. I’ll stick with unprecedented.
