Cannot imagine they will be out on Eichel

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: May 13, 2021
Published: May 13, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Fantastic trade or lousy trade?

(I am fan of neither team)
Trades
BUF
  1. Berglund, Victor
  2. Coyle, Charlie
  3. DeBrusk, Jake
  4. Lauko, Jakub
  5. 2021 1st round pick (BOS)
  6. 2022 1st round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Package appears underwhelming but salary fits. What else would work here?

I know Sabres fans will want Byfield, Lafreniere, Lundell level of player, but I don't think those guys would be moved (certainly not before Eichel sees the ice post-surgery). The value here would come from the prospects and picks.

I know Coyle has NTC and is in no way a 1C but is not 3RW either. Only works is if he waived to be top-6 center. He could be stabilizing piece in Sabres lineup. Debrusk, if they are counting on rebound. Maybe Studnicka if not. Lauko and Berglund are two guys that will be NHLers next year. Maybe Lohrei instead of Berglund.

Would also probably mean Krejci days in Boston are likely over.

If the first thought in your head is "This seems underwhelming", it's probably because it is.

The "Laf/Byfield" asks seem like a long shot, but if you're Buffalo, you've gotta be getting back a really, really solid prospect/young NHLer at the bare minimum+whatever.

Don't mind the trade value...but please that is the worse reason why Coyle would waive his NTC....it ain't happening.

Boston would and should be in on Eichel. However they simply wouldn't be able to offer something more enticing than any other team would. Their picks are too high in the draft. Their prospects aren't good enough to be considered cornerstone pieces and the roster players they'd be willing to give up are not the players Buffalo would want in a trade for Eichel. NOT to mention Boston is a divisional rival which means they would have to pay higher than LAK for example.

It would be cool to see Eichel go home but I just can't see it.

Just dont think they have the pieces. Coyle and DeBrusk have been underwhelming this season and guys like Studnicka/Vlader/Vaak/Lohrei are all decent pieces but easily get beat by other teams.

I agree. And Bruins don't have that piece.
But is Buffalo really being offered a top-10 NHL prospect or elite young player anywhere?

Byfield, Lafreniere, Lundell, Seider, Zegras, Drysdale, Caufield, Holtz, Raymond, Stuetzle, Sanderson, etc... don't appear available.
Rossi and Turcotte look on the fringe of possible
McMichael maybe if they took salary back. Maybe Lapierre in same scenario.
Maybe an high-end winger prospect like Boldy, Kaliyev, Denisenko, Kravtsov, Marchenko
Or maybe upside center like Morozov, Khusnutdinov, Kupari, Pinto...

Who is really available to them at this point?

Would like to see list of guys actually being offered.
Sabres will want top-flight guys...but teams seem reluctant to offer top young guy and instead are offering a handful of good, young pieces

Coyle / Debrusk / Lauko / Berglund / two 1sts

is not all that different than these (just looking at recent offers)

Buch / Chytil / Jones / 1st / 3rd
Boldy / Rask / Dumba / Khovanov / 1st
Kotkaniemi / Drouin / 1st / 2nd / 4th
Schmaltz / Hayton / Kuemper / 1st / 2nd / 4th
Necas / Gardiner / 1st

Much worse than any of those. Not a single high end piece coming from Boston

Buch + Chytil > DeBrusk + Coyle. Jones is also legit
Boldy is higher end and Dumba > Coyle and Debrusk
KK is highish end
Hayton is still highest end and Schmaltz > Coyle or DeBusk
Necas is legit

Unless Buffalo waits until next offseason to trade Eichel (once Eichel has a NMC), I highly doubt Eichel goes to Boston.

I don't disagree on any of those. (Maybe Kotkaniemi)
And would take Necas deal.

Was just thinking Bruins have got to be in on Eichel...but hard to fashion a package that isn't 'sum of the parts' value.

Just not good trading partners TBH. Not only that, but if Barkov becomes a UFA he'll be a guy you can sign and not give up any assets for.

I think, if Boston were in, there's no way that Stud isn't in the package.

Oh yeah you're right for sure. Theyll be in on him. Someone else made a good point that since its in division, the sabres will drive the price up that way too
