The disrespect to NJ frown

I think the Flames will be below average next year unless they make a huge move in the offseason

You have no way of knowing if they'll be better than the California teams though, as they don't even have a team yet. Until the expansion draft and first 2 weeks of free agency are over, there's no reasonable way to make that call.

Oh my! I never thought the Pacific was this bad! 6 out of 8 teams trash/rebuilding, and only 2 good.

A far cry from how good it was a few years ago

Yup! At least it’s going to be easy for my team in the first round next year!

To be fair, Vancouver and Calgary could re-bound to mid-pack teams next year, they both had a lot go wrong this year. But yeah, that's looking like a pretty weak division.

Look at the rest of the Division. They'll be fighting for the 3rd seed with VAN and CGY.

I know what the other teams look like. It's a sad bunch in the Pacific, same as every year.

And there's basically zero top-6 guys available to Seattle in the draft. They'll have to throw boatloads of money at middling UFA's to get any top-6 talent - saddling themselves with bad contracts and ensuring they'll suck for year to come.

Who will Seattle have to compete with Vancouver's key players: Miller, Pettersson, Horvat, Boeser, Hughes, Schmidt, Demko
Who will Seattle have to compete with Calgary's key players: Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Monohan, Lindholm, Giordano, Markstrom

I realize that these teams are all coming off poor seasons, but that doesn't mean they'll be that bad next year. I mean, in 2019-20 Vancouver and Calgary were playoff teams, ranking 7th and 8th in the conference, respectively. They aren't DOA next year.

Not really. It's still a flat cap most teams have their own guys that need raises and there are a lot of UFAs this summer.

They will have good goalies, a decent d-corps, and a ton of FWD depth. That will win a lot of games in the Pacific.

Cap space this summer:

Calgary: $15M (significant RFA's: none)
Vancouver: $16M (Pettersson, Hughes)
Edmonton: $23M (Yamamoto)
Vegas: $5M (none)
LA: $20M (none)
Anaheim: $22M (none)
San Jose: $8M (none)

I'm not seeing where Seattle has an advantage over, Los Angeles (have you SEEN their prospect list?), Anaheim or Calgary this summer. All 3 teams can spend significantly on free agents (as can the Oilers - scary thought), while teams like Vancouver and Calgary have a significant advantage in young high-end talent. Maybe they can finish ahead of San Jose, but I don't think they'll be better than anyone else. To say that they'll be 3rd in the division is crazy without knowing who they'll have on their roster come fall.
