No way Ovi takes that much of a discount. I'd say hes probably getting 10-11 mil this offseason, maybe a bit less. That Eichel trade is alright, but I think they might be able to give a different prospect instead of Samsonov

Plus Kuznetsov NTC kills any chance of this deal.

I could see Ovi going for 8-9 M discount but definitely not 5 M

NHLPA would crap their pants (and not allow) a 5 million per year deal. 10 + is good and maybe Caps give him the 5 th year?

As long as it's less than the $12.5mil he was rumored to have asked for, I'm fine with any other price (I'd still pay the man $12.5 but makes cap scenarios a lot harder). Current cap hit is like what, $9.5mil? Maybe he stays at that, maybe only increases to $10mil?

I have nothing to back this up, but maybe he's saying I'll take a home discount if you guys keep Kuznetsov. Or maybe he does see that to stay competitive through retirement he needs a team friendly deal.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you see this rumor?

I remember the reports that the NHLPA were not overly thrilled when McDavid didn't sign for 20% of the salary cap and instead signed for a 16.67% of the cap. NHLPA is powerless to stop it though. I agree that $5 million is unlikely and 10+ is more likely.

WSH should just walk from the table if the number is 10.5-11 or anything even close to that. He won't get that anywhere, especially on a long term deal.
7-8 is what the number should look like. 2 years tops.
