Flat Cap

Description
The one trade and unlikely signing I made (moving Kerfoot, using cap to sign Foligno) I admit is unlikely, not to mention Foligno isn't my first choice for that cap but made a lot of sense. Otherwise if we could move Kerfoot without retaining to a team that could use his C/W versatility and PK with cap space, depending on their asks, targeting Blake Coleman or Phillip Danault make more sense based on their ages. I was also going to get Bogosian again at 1M flat, or even 1.5M and keep Marincin in the AHL, but I don't want somebody blocking Sandin or Liljegren's paths. At this point, they are done at the AHL level, and for them to progress I think they need to play against NHL opponents to learn NHL defending at pace, and be proper NHL defenders.

If you think Ullmark would get more, I was originally looking at Tuukka who seems to be leaving Boston, but I doubt he'd take under 3M (was my goalie requirement) or go to Toronto. After that, it's basically bring back Fred or Rittich, bring back Bernier, or go with someone who's 35+ or never been above a back-up.

If you are signing Ullmark, he is not coming here to be the backup. And will cost more than what you gave him.

IMO a good comparison is Demko contract, 5 years 5mil AAV

Wings pass, we don't need or want kerfoot or his salary. You can pay us to take him, or keep the player and the contract. Other options are to trade him to a contending team where he has more value

A history of PTSD with this team.

I don't think Ullmark is gonna get close to that. He's done well over small samples. He needs a year or two and this would be a 1A/1B situation not a starter backup. Hot goalie gets starts.

It had nothing to do with 3rd rounder. He has value in being a C/W, being able to play PK and PP, and assuming Detroit doesn't want to be embarrassing they'll get servicable players under contract while continuing to tank. Kerfoot is young enough that its fine, and honestly he could be shipped off for a 6th and considering the cap Leafs fans would be okay with it if we use the cap well in his absence. He's a fine player, just too much cap for the Leafs needs right now. I just figure Detroit would like a serviceable player who could go wherever in the lineup. He could go to any team frankly.

Ummmmmm, yes he will. He is really good especially on a terrible team.

Ullmark’s .936 save percentage at 5-on-5 this season ranks sixth among all NHL goalies to appear in at least 10 games. His .932 save percentage at 5-on-5 the past two seasons is fourth among all goalies to appear in at least 40 games.

I agree another team would be better, we have plenty of options without giving up anything to get a similar player for cheaper just like this offseason. The team wasn't embarrassing this year so that's a bad take, leafs rebuild has been going on a lot longer then ours and we are completely fine with how we are progressing and rebuilding. Look at Tampa cause in 2 years that will be the start of our team
