Completely forgot about the rumors for the other Staal brothers. Don’t get me wrong love the staals but if they come to Carolina it’s on a one day retirement deal
He's an offensive defenseman, and the only one on the team under contract next season. He's still a premier puck moving defenseman and a great OFD.
But the main reason there are defensemen in the league is to defend. While he does contribute offensively from time to time he just can’t defend, and that was clearly apparent in the hurricanes last 2 games of the season.
Coleman, Goodrow, Reinhart all good. Lindholm and Savard are solid.
I'd prioritize whatever let's you extend Svechnikov for 8 years along with a Hamilton extension
That’s why I said this was very situational in the description. This would all depend if Hamilton resigns. I don’t think a bunch of these will occur I do hope that we pick up Oleksiak for that physical shut down third pairing of Oleksiak- Hakanpaa.

Great sample size. He's a net positive. He's not great in his own zone, fair enough. But the good offensively outweighs the bad. He'll be on the team, because it's likely Hamilton won't be and he'll need to QB the PP1

This is incorrect. The name is deceiving. We don't care about if a defenseman actually defends, we just care that he has a positive outcome on the game. Ideally you'd want some really good offensive-minded defensemen to put out in situations where you need to score, and some defensive-minded ones in situations you really need to defend a lead. But ultimately we want the largest positive on-ice impact, regardless of how it is achieved.
