the toronto maple leafs will now succeed the new york rangers in setting the league record for longest stanley cup drought in history

But they have won a Cup. There are teams that haven't even done that. So they've got that going for them.

the two oldest teams that haven't won a cup yet (buffalo and vancouver) did not exist the last time the leafs won a cup

Everybody who saw Toronto win their last cup is either dead, almost dead or they were 2 years old.

I wouldn’t say that most 65 year olds are dying at a massive rate, but, yeah it was a long time ago. And they won their cups by being better than at most 5 other teams.

True, but if you've ever been around Cubs or Red Sox fans (before their last WS wins) they talked about those teams like it was yesterday.

Boston looked way better than the Isles for the first 5 minutes or so of overtime ... it's been a lot more even since then.

It was bedtime stories for kids, they never saw it but knew all about it from those. Every Red Sox fan knew the curse of the Bambino, or Cubs fans and the Billy Goat Curse.
