I feel like this slipped under the radar, but how the hell did Reaves only get 2 games when Kadri got 8?

Said it before but Toronto didn't have the luxuries of timing that Colorado and Boston had. Look at the statlines for MacKinnon, Pastrank and Marchand when they signed their deals then look at when Matthews and Marner signed theirs.


No I’m not blaming Toronto.

But I am saying few players are worth even paying that much of a premium

It’s because head hits are the only thing NHL Player Safety takes seriously in regards to suspensions. He absolutely deserved as much as Kadri, but suspending Reaves for longer when he doesn’t have much of a history wouldn’t look good on the NHL in comparison to the Wilson incident going unpunished in the regular season.

I also think a reason the leafs failed, was we were too cocky. The habs ran with the underdog story, and we were wayyyyy too haughty.

I also think if we trade any of the big four, we’re in a bigger hole than now because their value is low and we will almost certainly lose the trade. I could see Reilly being dealt tho....

Yeah, the leafs were getting way ahead of themselves. They needs to always prepare for the worst, but hope for the best from now on.

Rielly was hot garbage all year not gonna lie. He wasn’t his normal self for some reason, and I wonder if the pressure is getting to him.

He couldn’t hold the zone, make good passes, or defend. I thought he’d be better because he finally has a good partner, guess I was wrong

They dont even take head hits seriously. Kadri definitely deserved a suspension but how did Kolesar not get suspended for his headshot on Byram that left him with a concussion (not even a penalty)? How did McNabb not get anything for his headshot on Rantanen (not even a penalty)? How did Pacioretty not get anything for his headshot on Girard (not even a penalty, he got matching roughing minors with Compher but no call for his headshot on Girard)?

Reasons:
Cap hit: 11 Million dollars could have been spent elsewhere. Pasta, Marchand, Bergeron make under 20 mil. Matthews, Tavares and Marner make 33 mil
Positional fit: Half their cap space is going to 4 forwards. Paying 2C 11 Mil is not good.
Timeline: Leafs had one of the brightest futures in the league and had a huge timeline to win a cup. After JT signing, they are in win now mode and haven't had success. Their timeline to win is getting shorter and shorter


Dubas and his fan boys won’t admit it but yes it was a disaster and unnecessary signing. How many teams have two number one centres and win? The answer is Pittsburgh and no one else. Crosby is a special breed though because he’s been underpaid his whole career and while I personally can’t stand Malkin he too even could have earned a bit more. Our two centres grabbed every dollar they could get. As far as Matthews goes that’s fine he isn’t from here and it’s a job to him. However, JT the big life long fan could have helped us out and signed a better deal for the team he claims to love.
