Calgary adds big time to that Reinhart trade unless Gaudreau is signing an extension immediately. There’s less risk with Reinhart bailing, which is obvious. Buffalo needs a keeper asset here.

This is a bad idea from a sabres perspective. But I’m actually worried this may happen.

Yes I agree, I just haven't figured out what the extra is. As for gaudreau, it goes one of 2 ways, he chooses to extend or get flipped. I've been heavy on the Reinhart to Calgary trade for months now

Supposedly the Flames want Eichel and Reinhart badly enough to offer Tkachuk, Lindholm, Zary, and this year’s 1st. That might actually get it done.

I don’t blame you, but Calgary only has so much to offer for Jack Eichel.

What would you want from Calgary for Eichel? Anything is on the table, if I'm the Flames.

A 10th overall pick is nothing to sneeze at, but an earlier post put Lindholm on the table for Kuznetsov. Which one is more valuable? Ordinarily I'd say it's Kuznetsov on points. This year, with Laviolette benching Kuznetsov, I think it's Lindholm, but not by the amount proposed earlier. Maybe, like, a 2nd round pick, or a bottom four defenseman?

A trade for Jack Eichel begins with Tkachuk. If the flames aren’t comfortable with that, there’s really nothing else to talk about.

At least Tkachuk. I think the rumor Eichel and Reinhart rumor above is a slight underpay, but with Tkachuk coming back im willing to lose out on the value

Then I would say there’s a conversation to be had. I would think Tkachuk would have to sign an extension for this deal to work. I’m also curious if this trade would happen before or after the expansion draft.

Buffalo gets at least two seasons with Tkachuk. He would do an extension, but it won't be cheap and that's nothing against the Sabres. If he stays with the Flames, it likely requires him being being one of the games highest paid wingers to lock him in.

There are two schools of thought with this extension. Either you get it done immediately and lock him in for 9 or 10 million long term, Or you wait until he has a mediocre season in Buffalo and try to get him to take $8 million a season for the next 2 or 3 years. I would just give him $9-10 million a season for the next seven years when the deal is done.

Tkachuk would be a big pick up for Buffalo, especially in terms of changing the culture. Ever since Ryan Miller was run over by Milan Lucic the Sabres have been seen as a soft team that can be pushed around and won’t do anything about it. Tkachuk is a potential captain who very clearly won’t let that happen anymore. That’s his value as an incoming player to Buffalo.

Tkachuk is loved in Calgary and the only real way I see him being dealt is if it's for a franchise C like Eichel. Funny enough, you mentioned the Sabres haven't had a player like Tkachuk in a long time, the Flames haven't had a C like Eichel since Nieuwendyk.

If this was to happen and Tkachuk was the center piece going to BUF. I think he would be absolutely loved by Sabre fans.

I wouldn’t doubt that for a second. Buffalo loves the lunchpail type of guy who plays a physical game and gives you everything he has. Not to mention the team needs to make a trade like this in order to convince fans to come back next year. Trading Eichel for draft picks and prospects that aren’t making the team will just guarantee that nobody is buying tickets next year.

I highly doubt that, they could get Eichel without Tkachuk or Lindholm. Buffalo shouldnt want Tkachuk anyways since he'll walk in 2 years

He is an RFA in two years, he can’t walk anywhere. Not to mention if the trade happens he signs a long term extension, I doubt Buffalo would ever let him not sign one.

He's an RFA in 1 year, and by then has played 6 NHL seasons. He hoes to Arbitration for a 1 year deal (7th NHL season) and becomes a UFA

I’d have to insist that no team making this trade would allow the key piece of the deal to not be locked down long-term as part of the deal basically. Nobody is that stupid. Tkachuk would be a potential captain of the Sabres if this trade went through. You’re trading faces of the franchise here. Nobody’s letting their guy walk away for nothing.

Then you should look to acquire someone besides Tkachuk because he's not goint to sign an extension this year. He's also going to prevent you from tanking the next 2 drafts

If this trade goes through and he refuses to sign anything long-term and has a bad year he’s not going to win an argument to get what he wants in the future. You speak like you know him personally. If Buffalo offered him a seven-year nine or $10 million per season contract you don’t think he’d sign it? He won’t get more than that anywhere else.
