Description
Gonna need to bridge guys till more cap opens up. Center is weak, but I think Chytil can be a top 6 option. Only chance to retain our young guys is through massive retention on Kreider and Trouba who at $3.5 mil and $4.5 mil are moveable.

It opens $8 mil of cap space to resign our young guys.

Clearly you don’t understand how bleak our salary cap outlook is with a flat cap.

As long as we don’t get Eichel our cap will be fine

Nah he does but retaining that much is ridiculous. Not to mention the returns and where you are sending trouba

You don’t see retention like that on 6 year contracts. It’s just not a thing. Seems like you’re really banking on the cap remaining flat for a while. And small gripe but in what way has Kakko earned 4 mil+ aav?

I doubt the Islanders have money to take on Trouba but the Bruins trade could work.

No it won’t how do you plan on signing Buch, Mika, Chytil, Shesty, Kakko, Kravtsov, Fox and how do you upgrade the center position? Literally make a post showing it if it’s so simple. The cap isn’t going up for a few years so we can’t bank on that, plus you need money to sign Laf and Miller.

Doesn’t have to be them, I was trying to avoid a buyout, but if no other option is left, that’ll be fine with me.

They already said we’re gonna have a flat cap for a number of years. It’s better to retain than buy them out. The way the contracts were structured make a buyout less favorable.

I don’t care about the returns. The point is to move money to be able to resign guys.

The only teams that Trouba could be willing to waive to are the Devils and Islanders. I think Buyout after 3 years is more likely

I’m positive they’ll buy him out, but his NMC turns into a modified no trade. Only problem is we’ll need the cap space a season or two earlier which will force our hand. Hopefully they make his life miserable enough he asks for a trade and we retain to get it done. Otherwise we’re screwed with the flat cap, which probably be flat for the next 4-5 years.

Well, for one, none of this will ever happen. Well maybe Kreider, but still no.

Were better off just waiting one more year and buying out Trouba, we will save more money than having to retain.

The point is not to buy them out so we aren’t stuck with dead money for multiple years in the future past the life of the original contract.

Trouba and kreider have NMC for 3 years then it’s M-NTC. so either way it doesn’t change for 3 years then with three years left you won’t need to retain. Lock up fox and shesty sign other youngsters to bridge deals. if we want to upgrade center trade a combination of strome buch kravtsov lundkvist then low end stuff. As long as Dolan keeps he’s nose the eff out of business then we should be fine

Well we’re not getting an upgrade trading low end assets. Plus you have to replace the guys you mentioned.

I think we're in pretty good shape. Don't have to move one of Kreider / Trouba until next offseason and the other before 23/24. And they're both still very valuable players around the league. Only place you'd ever have to retain them is on this website, not reality.

Yeah I mean I crunched the numbers. You basically have to move one of them before next season to ink Fox long term. And move the other before 23/24. They both put up very strong seasons and their size/speed combos make them a commodity around the league. No need for retention, and you're likely to get some solid value in return.
