This actually is pretty good for Hertl

I agree with @Ledge_And_Dairy buy out ADA (scum)

Man looking at the Rangers even after that trade they are going to be scary good for the next 5-8 years if all goes well

Gusev and Galchenyuk for the 4th line? Tom Wilson will be licking his chops every time he plays the Rangers. Easily the softest team in the league.

The Hertl trade is an overpay. Chytil and a 1st seems to be the consensus acceptable trade for him.

I also wonder how they pay Kakko, Fox, Krav, Zib, and Hertl next year

Consensus according to who? Ranger fans?

Hertl is not just a 'good' player, he's not even a 'great' player. He's damn near elite and the trade compensation would have to reflect that

I think its self explanatory that the 16th (really 15th) overall pick is assuming it stays the 16th overall pick.

Because its been asked on here countless times and SJS fans themselves have said that Chytil and a 1st is a fair deal. Hertl is due to be a free agent in a year, I cant imagine that he plans to spend the prime of his career on a trainwreck of a franchise that the Sharks have been... who are also probably going to start a rebuild. So they can either trade him for something or lose him for nothing.

The Rangers aren't the only team with the privilege of trading for Hertl. Chytil and a 1st may get the conversation started, but there would be multiple bidders for a player of Hertl's caliber, so if the Rangers want him they'll have to offer more. Hertl has already said he would prefer to stay in San Jose, so the ball is in their court to extend him or trade him. The chance they'll 'lose him for nothing' is next to zero.

This is definitely an offer SJ should accept. Only question would be if Hertl was willing to waive his NTC and sign an extension with a non-contender.

The ball is all in Hertl's court because no team is going to give up anything considerably significant without a guarantee that he will resign with them.

Are the Rangers still a non-contender with the addition of Hertl? If not for the slow start to the year because of COVID, the Rangers probably make the playoffs.

Sign and trades don't happen in the NHL. The Sharks (in this case) would have to be comfortable passing along a number to Hertl for how much NYR want to pay him. If Hertl declines, SJ doesn't get to trade him, and when he hits UFA, they can't sign him for less than the offer they already showed him.

Were Buchnevich's kicks at Vanecek's leg related to the leg sprain that has Vanecek out of the playoffs a week later? Are you still mad about Wilson tackling Buchnevich for that? Even after Strome and Panarin jumped Wilson to defend the Rangers' goalie kicker?

I'll let the Sharks fans set you straight about the other stuff.

That is too much for one year of Hertl. I am sure he would waive to New York. We would need extension in place before.

They probably would be, but being that Hertl is the one who would need to waive, being the "difference making" piece probably doesn't do much for assurance.

Under normal circumstances where the Rangers dont have to play the Caps, Pens, Bruins, Isles and Flyers 5-6 times, are the Rangers a playoff team?

I don't disagree that NYR would be a much better team with Hertl, it's just that there are so many reasons to be hesitant to waive.
