Nick Schultz would go for less than a 3rd, meanwhile MDZ, Neuvirth, and Streit would all get you more than a 3rd in my opinion.

So have you given up on the Flyers making the playoffs? Cause those picks are rather insignificant and the trades without immediate help just help the Flyers get a better lottery pick.

I think I agree with everyone above. All those players could get you higher than 3rd Rd. especially if you retain salary on them which wouldn't be an issue since they are all expiring contracts. I think we still have Umberger's buyout so we could retain up to two more salaries. Schultz really doesn't have a place in CHI so I doubt they give up anything more than a 5th to a team that needs some defense bad because he will likely be the odd man out no matter where he goes and doesn't really have much value.

I know you are surprised by this but look at the standings. There are three teams within 1 or two points that have 3-5 games in hand so we are already behind them in the standings if you base it off of points %. I think if the defense improves even the slightest then yes they could still make the playoffs, but I'm not holding my breath on that, and honestly the only guy he is trading that could help this team is Streit. Everyone else is scratched every other day so it doesn't necessarily make them worse.

To bounce off what NateElder is saying, there is a market for pending UFA D-men that we could (and imo should) take advantage of. The year we traded Kimmo and Coburn, we got Radko Gudas and 4 picks. We could easily get a 3rd for Streit and maybe MDZ too (if we retain salary). Plus, depending on who they bring in to replace them, there is a chance the defense improves with them gone. You could have the best of both worlds.

I could see Shultz going for less...i could see Streit and MDZ going for more...i guess i was trying not to find middle ground.

As for giving up on playoffs...i'd be ok with making these trades and letting chips fall where they may. My hope is they would improve or implode...my fear is they would continue on about the same and either squeak in or just miss the playoffs.

Jesse: I didn't know you were a hockey fan. Spent many a day watching you in right field with the Jays. Could use you in RF this season.
