does this trade make sense

Created by: Sabreshockey53
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: May 17, 2021
Published: May 17, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
BUF
  1. Dunn, Vince [RFA Rights]
STL
  1. Reinhart, Sam [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
When they trade Eichel it will all be for forwards ans forward prospects, but the defense still needs a lot of improvement. Plus this would mean they don't draft a defenseman with their top 3 pick.

No it does not. Dunn is a solid addition but Reinhart is far better at this stage. Was top ten goal scorer this year in the entire NHL on the worst team in the league. He will require more than a very solid second pair d man

Wasn’t Dunn on waivers earlier this season?

It makes sense as a target but St Louis adds. Probably 2 pieces.

value wise It is good for the Blues, but I feel like Reinhart would cost 6.5 million at least. I'd still do it but Buf declines

10th. Unless someone passed him in Canadian division after the Sabres season ended... Point remains the same, not even close to enough

I would not make a deal with STL that uses Dunn as the center piece. I do think he'd be a nice addition, but certainly not in a Reinhart deal that uses him as the main piece.

Yeah I'm sure it's great "value" for the Blues. You screwed us once on a trade not again

Add Robert Thomas or Jordan Kyrou to this trade and you might have a chance. One of them should’ve been a Sabre when Ryan O’Reilly was sent to the Blues, but they can be one now.

Vince Dunn is really good though. Berglund, and Sobotka were horrible before buffalo too. And Thompson was pretty bad too.

Agreed. I'd prefer an A+ prospect like Kaut as a centerpiece but if you can't get it they could do worse than Dunn and two other good pieces (1st and solid prospect).

Vince Dunn isn't as good as a lot of people try to make him out to be. Definitely a serviceable option, but if you're moving Reinhart in a hockey trade, you can do better.

Uhh no. Less than zero chance of that.

Then Sam Reinhart is not going to St. Louis.

I never said he was. But those two players have at least as much trade value as Reinhart, and arguably more in this flat cap era.

Kyrou had a better season than I was aware of, but Jeff Skinner had about as good a season as Thomas. Reinhart just had a career year in 2/3 of a normal season.

Haha what? Setting aside that Thomas battled injuries throughout and didn't play his best, he was still easily better to have around than Skinner. Besides, what happened this season is obviously far from the sole measure of value.
