That’s certainly a major reason. But if it was “just for the expansion draft requirements” then why sign him for 2 years?
I don't know he probably wanted more than a 750k x 1, and it was either that or re-signing Comeau or Dowling for the requirements. Either that or to fill a roster spot next year as an extra if some injuries happen (much better guys could do that, but Bones is all "grit and defense" style).
You gotta hand it to a guy who went undrafted and is doing enough to be able to secure 8 years worth of NHL contracts, all of which were 2 year deals so he's able to provide some stability there too. Good for him.
