Sure. But also.... Eichel isn't going to Detroit. He wants to play for like 3 teams: Rangers/Boston/Toronto. And he's going to go where he wants to.

And Toronto/Boston can't afford him.

1 different GM.
2 Eichel is better than ROR.
3 sabres aren’t adding a cap dump because they will need Okposo big contract to reach the cap floor.
4 he won’t be traded to an inner division team.
5 if the offers are low which are doubtful they will keep him.

Do you want me to call you stupid? You’re stupid. The Ryan O’Reilly trade was motivated by a timeline, they were pushed into a deal in an effort to avoid paying his $7.5 million bonus. It’s a stupid reason to make a bad trade, but that’s what happened. There is no such concern with Jack Eichel. The O’Reilly trade was a bad move the moment it was made, and most people knew it. Jack Eichel will not be dealt for a pile of mediocre pieces. If that’s the best offer he doesn’t go anywhere. Jack will then start the season in Buffalo and prove that he can still be the player we all think he is. If he still wants out at that point someone will have to meet the demand to make the deal happen.

How do you know he only wants to play for 3 teams Rangers/Boston/Toronto? He never came out and said what teams, First off he has no say where he winds up he'll go to the team that makes the best offer. And it wont be any of those 3 Boston and Toronto don't even have the pieces for Eichel and the Rangers aren't surrendering either Kakko or Lafreniere for Eichel. And that's what it would take.

No, Buffalo fans DON'T know you're right; the last trade I saw was for five firsts, and that's counting Alex Tuch as one first. (And anyone who thinks that Alex Tuch is worth only one first just doesn't have a clue.)

They're getting more than what you proposed here, but they're not getting the metric f*ck ton that Sabres fans seem to want. He's coming off a down year and a neck injury, two things that always drive the price of a player down. He'll still bring back more than what the Sabres got for ROR.

I mean Boston can afford him if they want. Krejci comes off the books so that's 7 million right there. I just dont think they have the pieces to get him in a deal.

Even that trade you offered above gives the Sabres some good young assets and more importantly 16m in cap space. Imagine what the Sabres could do with 16m in cap space.....or shall I say competent management could spend 16m.
I'm one of few who really didn't mind the ROR trade. Heck in January it looked like a top 5 selection in the draft, then the Blues caught fire and won the Cup. How did the Sabres spend 6m and 3.8m Bergland (retired) money? Wasted it on Skinner. Again a good UFA signing and the trade would have looked OK.

He has never once said where "he wants to play" and he also has zero control over where he goes.

I do agree he won't go to Detroit though since they wont be making a legitimate offer for him

I don't know what teams Eichel wants to be on, don't think many do and right now, that does not matter.

However next off-season his NMC kicks in and then he will definitely have a say in where he goes. Buffalo might want to trade him before that.

Yeah it's more than just fitting the cap hit in next year. It's basically the fact that Buff wants 4 assets that are either 1sts or players on ELCs worth 1sts. Which means no money going back the other way. There's literally no player in the Boston org. that fulfills that last part. Not Studnicka, not Beecher, not Urho, not anyone. There's just a lot of hoops it would take to go through get it done. And I'm not sure if Sweeney wants to mortgage his future with Bergeron and Pasta as UFA's in 2 years.

Boston can afford him, But without one of Pastrnak, McAvoy or Carlo being involved they just don't have the pieces for him.

The Sabres have 30 mill in cap space with Eichel. Theirs a lot more to roster managment than cap space, thats the least of GMs worries. The assets are 3rd liners and dmen that wont make the Sabres roster. A good UFA would have done absolutely nothing to save that ROR trade

Sure you got 32m in cap space...but that's just for 12 players. Dahlin and Reinhart among others need contracts. Teams that finish constantly are near the bottom of the league should have cap space.
IMO a Eichel trade (which is coming) will include either cap going back to the Sabres or in this proposed trade...young assets which may just be multiple B prospect and another 10m in cap space.

First off the ROR trade was a forced trade by ownership, Botterill's hands were tied and he had to take what he could get. The owners didn't want to pay the 7,5mil bonus after ROR did that summer interview saying he lost his love of the game. That trade had to be done before midnight or that bonus was due. Armstrong went in holding all the cards. To make it work Botterill had to take back those two stiffs.
Ownership cut off their nose to spite their face plain and simple.
This is a somewhat different situation, Adams ain't taking peanuts just to satisfy Eichel,...he saw the fallout from ROR trade and had to of learned from it. Basically I tell Eichel if I get the right offer fine and if not suck it up sonny bc you're here 5 more years or until I get the right offer.

As for what they get I say 4 pieces, a good roster player, an A prospect and at least 1 first and a 2nd, if there is a bidding war then that goes up.

Eichel didn’t have a down year. 18 points In 21 games while being analytically one of the best defensive centers playing through before his neck injury, a stomach injury Broken ribs and a sprained ankle.

1st off Sagecoil, he has no say in where he is traded. His NMC kicks in after next year. He is signed for several years si he goes where he is traded, if he is traded. Also have not heard where he wants to go, I think he just wants out of Buffalo.

2nd, that neck injury is a problem. Until it is resolved, I believe Buffalo will not get what it thinks or want steams will be Leary both in what it will cost and that 10 million a dollar contract that he carries.

There are very few teams that have both the cap and the prospects:

LA Kings. Best chance, but will they take the chance
NY Rangers. Have cap and prospects, owner wants to win, but interstate and interdivision trade will cost more
New Jersey have cap but not the prospects that the two have
Detroit, has cap but not prospects. Also doubt Yzerman even makes an offer and sticks with the plan
