Description
Devils need a true #1 defensemen. Maybe Smith or Luke Hughes (if we draft him) can develop into a #1 defensemen, but there are many options in FA that we could go after that would strengthen our d core.

The defensemen the Devils could try to sign if they make it to free agency
1. Hamilton
2. Klingberg
3. Pulock
4. Jones
5. Parakyo

There's a good chance these players stay, but I think at least 2 of them make the open market.

True number one is an all situation guy. If he’s a guy you’re throwing over the boards up a goal on a PK with five minutes left, that team is not doing well.

There’s just nothing good. No high end talent on the wings. Nothing resembling a number one center. Barely something resembling a number two center (I don’t care about their potential. I know you think they’re both some how elite. They haven’t been yet, we both know it). Thin and weak back end. This team doesn’t have a hope of making the playoffs.

It's way too early to tell. All of these guys are really young and have shown signs of improvement. Defense does look thin but that's what the big FA signing is for.

Hughes is one of the youngest players in this draft, he will be great but I dont think he will be in the NHL in 2 years much less a first pairing dman
