Staal's great but idk about this one. You really shouldn't trade Buch.

No Boquist does not offer what Staal brings.
He has been there done that in playoffs and knows his role on 3rd line shut down centre.
Want his leadership and voice in locker room.

Think the idea is to get someone who has won before (with the Pens back in the day).

Boston has zero use for a goalie, and if by some chance they did, they’d sign a free agent.

Yeah, why pay a 25 year old who is getting better every year and just scored 20 goals and had 48 points in 54 games, plus has become a very good penalty killer and had 3 short handed goals. Plus he is one of the very few players the Rangers have that plays with some emotion and a chip on his shoulder. The next 5 years will be his prime years, so yeah, lets not pay him. Let him score goals and play good hockey for someone else instead of paying him what he is worth. Signing him for 5 years should be a priority for Drury....if not....fire Drury too.

Couldn't have said this better myself....you know the Rangers are gonna try to get "bigger and tougher too play against" this off season...since Buch does play with an edge- and has EARNED his ice time through tough love which others haven't had to endear (ahem, Howden), if he's shipped out this summer that would be lunacy. Pay the guy what he has earned. I will say though- if moving Buch is what it takes to improve the 2C situation, you have to at least consider...but getting a 33 yo in return is a nonstarter...and I certainly wouldn't trade him within division.

Anyone is tradeable if you get the right deal, but to simply trade him because you don't want to pay him is crazy. If he was 32 and wanted a 5 year deal you have to consider his age, but Buch is 25 and just hitting his prime. 5 years at $5.5 or $6 per year is good for him and the Rangers. I would bet if you gave every team in the NHL a shot at signing him for those numbers, you would have LOTS of takers.

Dont disagree, but few if any teams have overall #2 & #9 first round picks on the 2nd/3rd lines behind him.
No need to pay him 6 mil. He is only stunting the younger more promising players. Sell now his value has never bern higher. May never be as high again... never know. Ok so maybe Staal isnt the best/correct example.
But im after building a tough hard to play against checking 3rd line. Staal fills in for Buch on PK, provides better faceoff centre and brings a better, more experienced leader. This team is desperate for leadership. Would also trade Buchnevich to Winnipeg for Adam Lowry in a heartbeat!! But Jets have top 6 wingers. God bless him, i miss him, but even Fast played 1st line this season in Carolina. Buchnevich fits in their top 6 .
Losing Buchnevich is of little consequence, imo. Easily replaced by a similar, or perhaps a more physical player.

No one on this earth wants to see a Ranger team that is tougher and harder to play against, and I agree 1,000% on a guy like Lowry or Marcus Foligno, but there is no way they are being traded. Lets face facts about our kids.....they all play soft. Kakko is not physical and Kravstov is even less physical a player. Only Laffy has some grit to his game, so getting harder to play against doesn't mean trading a guy like Buch, who plays with some grit, it may mean trading a kid like Kravstov to get another center. A team can't win a cup with nothing but soft skill players, it needs gritty guys as well, even on the top 2 lines. Buch is only 25 as well, so its not like he is going to stop getting better soon, and he is already a 60 point winger (over 82 games) who is also a top notch PK player. Kakko and Kravstov are no where near what he does, and won't be for a few years, even if they both played top 6 every game. I would much rather see them keep Laffy/Mika/Buch and Panarin/Strome/Kakko on top two lines with Kreider/Chytil on 3rd line and go out and get a gritty 3rd line right wing and upgrade the 4th line with big, physical wingers to flank Rooney like Crouse or Deslauries or Reaves. If they could trade Kravstov in a package for a center line Monahan, I would do it in a heart beat and sign Buch for 4 or 5 years.
