Eichel to Minnesota

Created by: Chapee44
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: May 20, 2021
Published: May 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think Reinhart will stay if treated properly. Granato spoke so highly of him I think it's a perfect fit to give him the C and have him lead us going forward. I'd give Cozens and McCabe the As here and try and change the culture. The biggest issue with optics around Reinhart is the terrible 5 Buffalo Media members are awful at their jobs and treat him like garbage. (Harrington, Hamilton, Ray, Peters, Rivet)

If not Driedger then maybe Raanta? Idk one of the better FA goalies.
They have cap room for whoever they want/can get.

I would take Rossi instead of the first but I didn't wanna push the value too high. I think it's already as much of a "trade win" as we can reasonably hope for. Hard to actually win a trade when losing a superstar

Finally an Eichel trade that isn't embarrassing.

both of them still isn't close to Eichel's value so I don't know where you're getting that valuation.

There's been a few other decent ones I've seen but lots of lowballs from other teams and then a little too much value from our fans.
At the end of the day I try to stick to the "four 1sts" pricetag as much as I can.
Here I counted Fiala as 1.3 and Dumba as .7 since the cap movement is necessary.

Um. No. You can potentially get Korpi as part of a Risto trade, but Merzlikins has pretty much established himself as the starter here and isn't going to be given away that easily.

Really? He was in the bottom third of starters (min. 20gp) last season in HDSV%, GSAA, and HDSAA... I've seen lots of CBJ fans willing to move on from him. Especially with a strong FA class of goalies.

Noted. Now compare that to Korpi.

Multiple different media member are telling you he has a terrible attitude, its not the 5 media members fault, hes been a d!ck, and it escalated this year. I hate Harrington and think The Instigators are unlistenable too but where theres smoke theres fire. Hes wanted out more than Eichel. Granato spoke highly of everyone because hes an interm coach trying to win a job, not burn bridges, especially for a team that hes trying to get hired by.

It wasnt an opinion. RFA rules exist for teams like Buffalo

Merzlikins was better than Korpisalo but not by much analytically. Korpisalo's numbers make him an average backup goalie.
So low end starter + average backup = subpar production.
Sign any 1 of Rask, Grubauer, Mrazek, Ullmark, Bernier as your starter and you improve. Kivlenieks also had better analytics than Merzlikins, albeit in a smaller sample size.

It very much was an opinion. You just disagreed with everything I said based on perspective. There's no hard and set fact. I think Reinhart has been perfectly acceptable in his handling of the media. Showing emotion isn't a problem.

The media were talking about his off camera attitude on multiple occasions and theirs been something for the last couples seasons. I been trying to tell you all, hes had a foot out the door since the ROR deal and all this team has done is get worse. These are facts.

And I'm saying the media can say what they want. The players and coach said differently. I think the relationship can work. He may still be traded. That's fine. But in my head on this post, he is in the right and if we change our perspective from the garbage that those 5 produce, we get a different image. I hope we can agree that the sooner the 5 of them lose their jobs the better.

What makes you think Reinhart will stay?

I think it’s the same deal it always is in buffalo. Reinhart will stay if the Sabres severely overpay him.

I'm willing to give him up to 8.5 a year from what he's shown. He's a 1aC in the league and is still young.
I think 7.5 on a shorter term deal can make it work though. I put some thoughts in the description.

Well sure. I mean a couple things are just very clear here.
1. Reinhart wants out.
2. Money rules all.

If Reinhart’ s agent tells him he’s worth 7x7, and buffalo offers 8x9, maybe he stays.

Reinhart wanting out hasn't been made clear. He has said he hates losing and doesn't want to go through another rebuild. The idea I've put forward is to build from where we are not tear it down. The team was roughly .500 this year if you took the 18 game losing streak and set it to 9-9. That's just outside the playoff picture. The coach, the injuries, Taylor Hall only ever shooting 5hole, Playing with your 6th string goalie, it all doesn't help lol If they can get Reinhart to buy into making a change I think he can stay. To do this they need to improve the defense and goaltending first (done) and add some more play-drivers up front (also done). With Eichel I think the surgery nonsense when he has no medical support is his way of saying "trade me right f****** now" lol

Well, one thing should be clear to everyone. Everyone wants out of buffalo. The team is bad, and lets face it, buffalo is not a city that millionaire athletes want to live in if they have their choice. High taxes, cold, small, kind of dreary. Great wings though. There’s a pretty established history here. Overpay guys or they leave.

You are right it is unfortunately not Vegas lol But being from just the other side of the border it's really not that bad once you get used to it. I will take bundled up cold snowy winters over sweat my tail off can't go outside 4 months a year summers lol
