They wouldn't have Hamilton or Seguin if they kept Kessel

Boston fans have moved on. I think most are happy with the performance of the team. It’s dopes like this that wake up and think, “you know what? I bet no one has ever thought to do an ACGM about how the bruins drafted poorly in 2015.” The lack of originality is astounding. But this one is particularly lame. It’s like the dud doesn’t get that without a kessel trade, the bruins don’t have seguin or hamilton, and without a hamilton trade, they don’t have some of those draft picks.

I’m pretty happy with the direction of the bruins team, and I think most fans are as well.

I can think of at least 20 franchises that would like to have the success the Bruins have had over the past 12 years.

Other than chicago, LA, Tampa, and Pittsburgh it’s basically just been a bunch of one off teams that got hot for a year. Maybe the caps go in that category too. Sustained success is kinda nice.

1. Every team has bad draft picks
2. Connor isn't better than DeBrusk
3. Smith and Kessel aren't actually good
4. Seguin is kinda overrated

But the Thornton trade and reasoning was utter garbage. And even if I don't rate Seguin the highest, the reasoning was really dumb there too, same sort of goes for Smith.
The Hamilton trade was terrible and the reasoning behind it even worse. He's probably the best defenseman in the league, if anything beaten by Fox. I think I'd have him just ahead of McAvoy.
I would have loved to have Chabot and Barzal on the Bruins obviously.

At least 3/4 if not 80-90% of these ACGMs are from non-Bruins fans and most Bruins fans have moved on.

Still mad about the fact we traded a pick that became Kaprizov, but for Boston, they really messed everything in the 2015 draft up except for Debrusk. Even with Debrusk, we could have chosen better players. But what can you do?

He's not. He's a better shot, and better on the power play, but he's terrible defensively and doesn't really do better than your average player offensively. DeBrusk does. It's more about situation and minutes than anything else between those two.

And what does Debrusk do better on offensive better than the average player?

He gets outshot consistently on the Wpg top or second line, while DeBrusk does the opposite on the Bruins second or third line. It isn't really close unless you look at points to draw all your conclusions

Yup. Deff creates more shots for himself alright. Debrusk has 0 30+ goal years. Connor has 3. Debrusk has never scored 50 points in a season. Connor did it 4 times.

Yeah. Stick DeBrusk up for 20 minutes a night with Bergeron and Marchand and see whathappens. Also, I don't care if you score more goals even in a similar situation if you make sure to give up more shots the other way - which Connor does. Or do we not care about defense now?

You think every player focuses more on defense than offense? Ever hear of a player named Alexander ovechkin?

Yeah - Ovechkin would be better if he was better at playing defense. It's really not that hard.

But I can already tell you determine who's a good player first, and what goes into being a good player secondly, so this discussion is pointless

You’re only focusing on defense because debrusk had like 14 points this year lmao

No, DeBrusk is offensively stronger as well - again, it's about situation. But I always care about defense. To elude to your previous example - I don't think Ovechkin is one of the best players in the league like many others do.

And some players are good defensively but still bad - like Carlo. He is pretty good defensively, but he's so bad offensively that he shouldn't be playing meaningful minutes outside of a shutdown 3rd pairing, d-zone start type of role.

Debrusk is not good defensively and hes weak on the boards/puck. Ive always liked Debrusk but i take Connor over him 95% of the time.

also completely disagree with your Carlo take

DeBrusk is slightly below average defensively- a lot of what he doesn't do in puck battles he does by moving the puck from d-zone to o-zone or skating a passer out of trouble.

Connor is wayyy below average. Like, terrible att playing defense. Shots fly his teams direction when he's out there, even if you control for everything.

DeBrusk makes more offense than expected from his situation. The opposite is true for Connor.
