OK. I thought it would be helpful to clear 12 million in salary to add Reinhart and help fund the Pettersson/Hughes contracts.

What would be fair? The 12 million in contracts, 2021 1st, and 2022 2nd + 2023 2nd? Down grade the two future 1sts to 2nds? I'd probably go for that.

On the Reinhart trade...

They’ve ridden out those contracts into the last year & may as well see it through for one last year. The 3 1sts would come back to haunt the Canucks for many years since Reinhart won’t get close to putting Van over the top.

The 12m saved minus 7m leaves 5m. That might get a RHD to fill a need or at least the 3C spot. So holes & depth still remain.

Cap space for Petey & Hughes then Boeser soon would be a hardship.

So Canucks ride it out or use buyouts if prudent would be the better options.

I changed the trade. Eriksson/Roussel/Beagle, 2021 1st, 2022 2nd, 2023 2nd.
(Although would anyone be surprised if Benning made a dumb trade?)

I think that trade would get you a bag of pucks, not Reinhart. That’s 3 cap dumps.

You might as well say your intent is to not sell any tickets at any Sabres home games for the next two seasons. Gee, that sure sounds fun.

Its 6 distinct entities. 3 cap dumps, one 1st, two 2nds.

Right. I think those picks would get you the cap dumps, not a star player.

Pegulas can afford it. Fans will come around if the kids stay positive. Sam Reinhart looked like he was being held hostage the entire season. Stick with Granato, trust the plan, there's only one way to go when you hit rock bottom.

Since this is from a BUF perspective, you wouldn’t need to give Reinhart in that deal.

It’s pretty clear the Pegulas only care about money. Blatantly making it obvious that you have no intention of winning any hockey games isn’t going to get anyone to pay the watch this team. They have no desire to lose $20 million a season because they can only get 300 people to show up to games. And those 300 people are fans of the opposing team. Even if they understood what planning was, there’s no way they would sign up for a plan that sees them embarrassing the city for 3 more years.

I think that they think the Sabres can turn around like the Bills turned around.

I've seen some awful Sabres teams in my lifetime (and some awful Bills team). The Teddy Nolan teams were always fun to watch. Add someone like Shane Wright or Connor Bedard and the fans will come back.

OK, last comment for the night. Three 1sts is fair, 12 million is a lot of salary to take back.

Reinhart to me is worth the 2021 1st (9th overall) plus 2023 1st (somewhere between 21st and 24th overall? who can know these things)

So then is the 2022 1st (somewhere between 17th and 20th?) worth 12 million in cap dumps. I think so.
