Before I get hate on trading Nylander, just hear me out for 2 minutes before you call me down to the dirt here.
I like Nylander and what he does for the team, and would HATE to see him go. But, I believe at some point in time, with Robertson's ELC in affect and Amirov newly signed, the leaf's may be looking into another direction that could see these rookies in with the big boys, leading to a very attainable contract being moved, which I can see being Nylander. The trade scenario for Nylander is him being shipped off to Minnesota for a package that includes the other Foligno brother in Marcus (what a cool thought IMO), a defensive prospect in Fedor Gordeev and a 1st and 3rd. I picked Marcus Foligno not just because it would be cool to see two brothers on the same team (especially when their pops played in TOR), but because his style of game his similar to Nick's, but with an added scoring touch as we seen this season. He would make a nice add for the leafs middle six depth, and it gives an opportunity to Robertson/Amirov to step in.
I also included Brandon Montour in signings, as he can be a great fit on the top 4 (I like Holl on the top 4 as well, as they could potentially flip flop throughout the season) and I believe he has been a Leaf's target for quite some time now anyway.
Other signings include Spezza/Thornton coming back on league min deals in a hunt for a cup (or potentially back to back, we'll have to wait and see), Hyman, Nick Foligno and Nash re-signing, Chris Driedger signing with the leafs, as Freddie walks, and most notably, Brett Ritchie switching from West to East coast. I would love Brett Ritchie to sign in TOR (and I bet this may cause Calgary fans to be a little upset), but man, this guy can play anywhere on the ice, whenever he's told so. As a big body who can add a freighting look to the leaf's, it would boost their overall strength and capabilities to out match their opponents on every aspect of the game.
The leaf's got the offence, but IMO, they need more bigger bodies that can slow down the opposition and let Matthews/Marner and the others do their thing. This roster has an equal amount of great offense, and better defense and I believe it can do some good damage.
Again, im not a firm believer on a Nylander trade, but if it where to happen, I'd like a return that involves a steady middle to top 6 winger that is cheap, a mid tier defensive prospect, and a draft pick or two.
Marcus foligno just signed a 3 years extension starting next year. Wild won't be/ aren't trading Marcus foligno. He's also too important to wild success in terms of leadership, & etc...

never realized that. thanks for the heads up on that
Foligno is precisely the type of player Toronto needs at the right age and contract, but that’s what the wild needs too and can’t picture the wild trading him, just like hartman. They won’t have 100 points in a season but that’s not why they are signed
TOR needs to get away from this sign old guy fetish. There is no reason at all for TOR to resign Thornton, and even thinking of doing so shows why this team can't win.
And that Goodrow contract, he's not signing that to come to TOR. If that's the contract he signs, he'll stay in TB, where he pays less taxes.

Thats if tampa can afford it. 15 mil over cap, cant see Goodrow being offered a contract more than 1.2 to stay
