When I see Jack Hughes playing, I see the maturity and skill. The numbers would come, but I really like this guy. He just needs the development. I think he is definitely a future 1C. Not a HOF, but pretty solid. And he fits the Wild where responsibility is valued better that Eichel in my opinion.
people will be saying this about Hughes until they realize they can't get away with saying it any more.
This is a very young league. You got younger players who are just coming into the game exploding onto the scene. Matthews, McDavid, MacKinnon even Pettersson. The list goes on.
It's beyond just the numbers at this point. It's the total play.
Yeah, he's only had 2 years. but man, even compared to these other guys first couple years, the play is just not to the level.
I know NJ fans will cry about that. But ask yourself, if you had to sign him to an 8 year deal today.....which you will have to resign him next year as that 3 year entry level contract will be up, what is he really worth number wise. As it stands right now, by the numbers, your looking at a guy who's a 3-4 mil per player, if that. It depends how much value you put on apples as opposed to cookies.
I think NJ fans should come to that realization. Because if you keep over hyping this guy, you're going to see this kid demand some contract that he's just not worthy of. As he hasn't done anything to earn it yet. Be careful what you guys wish for.
