Tank Machine

Created by: elchud
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: May 23, 2021
Published: May 23, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Last one. Assumes SEA wins lottery 1st overall, BUF wins lottery 2nd overall. Eichel (injured) to SEA for 1st overall basically (and a few 2nds). His health status is probably up in the air until September, I don't think he has "max" value in July.
LA trades for 1st overall to select Owen Power. Buffalo gets prospects package.
VAN dumps 12 million in cap, and Podkolzin and their 2021 1st. Reinhart/Risto(half retained) as they create a playoff team that could possibly be a WC contender.
Sabres select Beniers 2nd overall and take BPA at 8th&9th overall. Re-sign Ullmark. Not a total tank team, Ullmark keeps them in most games. Roster may be good enough for...8th or 9th overall, at best. But most likely top-4 worst record. 2022 is a stacked draft.

imo canucks don't trade podkolzin. they would trade prospects plus a first for reinhart only. no need for another offensive d

That's a horrible trade for Eichel.

This draft is so weak. 1st overall and a bunch of seconds would be a worse return than what we got for O'Reilly, and that is saying something.

I think you're being facetious? Do you really think 1st overall and 3 2nds is worse than a low 1st, a 2nd, Tage and 2 cap dumps? If Ryan Johnson or Tage Thompson have a better career than Owen Power, I guess so. The cap dumps from STL were prohibitive in making the roster better.

*If* Sabres and Eichel have an irreparable relationship, they may want to move him before the season starts. And yes, the problem with that is, his health status is kinda up in the air.

The other assumption I'm making is LAK have more interested in Owen Power than Jack Eichel.

I don't know a comparable for an injured superstar being traded in hockey. Waiting until the season starts and Eichel plays healthy, at an elite level, is fine. Again, is the relationship irreparable? I kinda think it is.

You are operating on the assumption that Jack is injured and requires the surgery he wants to be healthy. All the medical professionals seem to agree the surgery is unnecessary and The recommended therapy regimen is enough to ensure he will be healthy to start training camp whether it is in Buffalo or somewhere else. Jack is hanging his head on a surgery he can’t get medical backing for. Even the second opinion that he sought after team doctors told him it wasn’t necessary agreed with the team doctors. His health should not impact his trade value at all.
