This is not the most realistic (if at all). I just wanted to show how I would try to approach this off-season if I was the canes GM.

Flames very very very easily decline, they already have andersson and Tanev at right defense so they don’t need another. Also the value is way in the favour of Carolina. Hamilton didn’t work out in calgary he wasn’t liked the by team so he will not be coming back. This is terrible for calgary value wise anyway

Flames dont need Hamilton. We have enough Top 4 RD men. Plus I saw something that supposedly he didn't like it here. Niederreiter is not what we need and Gaudreau is willing to sign an extension. Also Dube gets 1+ more million and Mangiapane will be the guy slotting in for Gaudreau if he is moved. This is horrible for Flames and won't be happening

That doesn’t seem like the best idea to trade a potential top 5 picks for two 3rd liners.

Based on projected lineups yes they appear to be on the third line. But the middle six lines are more of a 2a 2b kind of middle six. Another upside to Foegele and fast is that they can play up and down the line up and really help on the power play and the penalty kill when needed. Both have played on the top line at times this season. Foegele still has room to grow and he would flourish with a bigger role. Fast would be a really good depth piece for any team.

Either way the sabres aren’t trading away next years first. That would be such a bad move 😂😂

So Calgary gives up 2 top 6 wingers and a first round pick for Dougie Hamilton who left Calgary on bad terms... I'll pass.

Step 1) Let Hamilton walk. He’s not getting $8M from the Canes

Step 2) Figure out how to keep Skjei. Either protect him from Seattle or pay Francis to stay away from him

Step 3) Re-sign Hakanpaa and sign Tyson Barrie. Hakanpaa plays with Slavin on the PK, taking Hamilton’s spot and Barrie plays with Slavin at 5-5, takes over the 1st PP unit

Step 4) Acquire another forward capable of 20 goals.

    Step 5) Profit

Miscellaneous steps-re-sign McGinn and Foegele. let Martinook walk, replace him with Lorentz or Jack Drury. Buyout Gardiner, suck it up, just do it.

Avs match your offer sheet if Makar is even allowed to get that far.

Fast and Foegele are both decent Middle six players, but neither of them will ever be worth a first round pick. The two of them put together might be worth a second round pick, but not even Buffalo’s own.

Even if we pretend that offer sheet is (a) signed by Makar and (b) not matched by Colorado:
Why would you pay four 1st's to go from Hamilton to Makar?

In fairness to the person that posted this, Dougie was signed then traded so he can walk in 7 years. That said doubt Calgary wants him or that he wants to go back

The problem is he is very likely getting a full NTC with his next deal

That's a terrible evaluation of what a probable top 5 pick would be worth.
    I don't even think those guys would get a 2022 2nd pick.
