Description

So in this situation, the Jackets are informed by Jones that he is wanting to test FA. With Davidson back there is no way he is going to let Jarmo go into next season with Jones on a one year contract and risk losing him for nothing. With that said Jones does have some trade protection and there likely would be a certain number of teams he would be willing to sign with. Two teams come to mind are Colorado and Dallas as he has ties to each team. With Makar in Colorado needing a new contract and others coming up soon not sure the Avs have the room for Jones long term. So that brings me to Dallas. Dallas could take the contract if Jones is willing to give them a hometown discount. The cost would be steep but fair for a player of Jones caliber.

As for the Jackets, the signings and moves mark how the Jackets will try to “reload” in the situation that Jones will no longer be a part of the team. That being said, the Jackets would use the 1OA to select Owen Power. He would be the perfect selection as he would be here long term and eventually replace Jones. The Larsson signing is a very important move as he could eat big minutes and be the defensive partner to Werenski. The Ristolainen trade gives the Jackets some more depth on defense and a perfect pair for Gavrikov as it would allow him to play a more natural game. It also allows Peeke to play limited minutes but flexibility to increase minutes if he proves he can handle it.

The odds of Jackets winning 1OA are very very low, and they haven't scored a lottery win in about 10-12 tries, and probably won't this year.
There are several top end D men in this draft, but almost all are left handed.
I agree with your rationale that Avs & Stars are 2 potential landing spots.
Any Jones trade should include a much better return at center...the lineup above is very weak up the middle.
Dellandrea has very little experience and will not be ready as 1C...most likely Domi and/or Jenner would be needed to shore things up there, but still a bit underwhelming at the pivot position.

I'm never a fan of overpaying someone to *try* and replace another player especially at such relatively long term

Jones is overrated and, as you said, unsigned. If he would agree to an extension I would still hesitate to give up a package like that. Would look pretty bad if Bourque ends up being Brayden Point 2.0. Dell has top six up side as well if Bones ever gives him the chance

Bourque isn’t going to be an 85-90 point player like Point & I’ve got Dellandrea as a better version of Dickinson as a 3rd line C/W. Bourque is your top-6 forward & Dellandrea is a solid two-way 3C & serviceable 2C when needed. Don’t see top-line potential with him.

With strong line mates I think he could be a quality 40-50 point complimentary forward. Small sample size but I really liked him with Guri. If everybody is healthy I’d love to see three scoring lines, one being Guri-Benn-Dell

Cool scenario. I think Korpi for Risto 1for1 is fair. I could definitely see that all happening but I think Jones re-signs. Being a captain is important to him and this will be his best chance at that.
