This is one of the first copp trades I’ve seen that 1) actually make sense for the jets, and 2) give the jets something worth moving Copp - our best defensive forward and 7th forward overall (jumps into top 6 first in case of injury)

Why would the Jets trade Copp? He'd be a great replacement for Stastny

I would think the rangers would at least consider. Rangers get a great defensive forward who’s coming off his best offensive season. He can play up and down the lineup. He’s great friends with Trouba. Schneider might be caught behind Trouba and Fox on the right side. They have a good bunch of D prospects and can afford to give up one.

Oh I mean there's an argument to be made to deal Schneider for a C. But that's as a key piece as part of a package for guys like Eichel or Pettersson. Copp is a high end 3C, and not really a top 6C. Someone like Schneider, one of the better D prospects in the sport. is simply an overpay.

Perhaps there's an argument to be made for someone like Matthew Robertson. That seems a bit more of Copp's tier.

Even saying that, Copp is likely due for a contract coming in around 5 mil and a 3C making 5 mil is just bad cap mgmt.

I think there's a good fit in a place like Edmonton or Minnesota or even like Anaheim. But it's not a great fit for the Rangers.

Can't see the Rangers making that trade, wonder if Detroit would trade that Tuomisto kid for Copp.

Sure sounds like a good prospect. From The Athletic (in February):

"Tuomisto’s counting stats haven’t yet come as a freshman at Denver, but he has had an immediate impact on that team. Like Wallinder, he’s a low-floor, high-ceiling defender with all of the physical tools needed to become a top-four player. His point shot is heavy (that includes his long-range wrister, his one-timer and his windup slap shot, the last of which is becoming rare among young defencemen), giving him legitimate goal-scoring upside from the back end. He’s physical for his size and understands how to leverage that advantage to push opponents off of pucks. But he’s also got some skills you might not expect, with an ability to lead forwards with long outlets, to find and hit seams inside the offensive zone, to not rush a play under pressure and to adjust with a pivot across the point. His skating is a little sluggish and his D-zone reads can be sloppy, but he’s got an exciting package and time to figure the rest out in college before he turns pro.

Here’s Denver head coach David Carle on Tuomisto: “Big fan. Brain, ability to process, ability to apply things that we’re teaching. He’s big time. His feet look awkward a little bit at times, but his ability to take something we say and then to apply it might be better than anyone we’ve had. And he can pound the puck, and he knows when to move it at the right time. He’s going to be a really good hockey player.”
