The next two drafts dont matter

Description
Feel free to tack on a late pick or something from 2023 if you're ever so dissatisfied with the trade values. Bring on the CHL/NCAA/European free agents and all of the late draft picks. Scouts are going to have their work cut out for them over the next two/three drafts.

Palat waives to go to Edmonton for the same reason Schwartz takes a one-year prove-it deal: gives them both a substantial opportunity for an unhealthy pay raise next season. Edmonton has a clear shot at a division title, god forbid a conference title with this setup, if it doesn't crap the bed next season (I know this is a big ask): both men have a chance to add more hardware and it's not as if they're being sent to a lottery team. Siberia? Maybe, but the hockey should be good.

In order for the cap to work regarding Klefbom's LTIR status (and if my math is correct) Yamamoto has to be signed after the first day of the season and a paper transaction regarding Bouchard and McLeod must be performed given the cap space Edmonton has right now. If he's deemed exempt from expansion then it's likely the league will qualify Klefbom as actually long-term LTIR and they won't need to be cap compliant in order to assign him to LTIR by season's opening (think like the Hossa contract and the Coyotes: very much defined as pre-existing and thus the team isn't punished for it). Klefbom returns for the playoffs as a likely stand-in for Koekkoek: I think he *could* be ready sooner but unless Edmonton manages to accrue some deadline cap space, he'll have to settle for a Bakersfield conditioning stint near the end of the season.

The money is going to get incredibly tight come next season but less so the year after that. Swapping out Geertsen, Koekkoek, and Smith for Broberg, Konovalov, and Samorukov, plus Archibald expiring, leaves enough money to bridge McLeod and find a replacement #4RW (Rasanen) without changing Edmonton's cap total. My expectation is both Puljujarvi (give or take $3.5M) and Yamamoto take a big step forward next year: as Palat expires they move back up the lineup, Coleman shifts back to RW, and Holloway takes the #3LW role. The remaining $2M from that mess goes to Nurse to get him between $7M and $7.5M. Most of Schwartz's money goes to Jones to get him up to around $8M, and the remainder of that money plus the expiring $2.9M in dead cap leaves about $3.5M to find another winger and replacement forward with. Klefbom will need to be traded if he returns after a successful playoff run, or will need to retire if he does not return.

Totally agree they should exhaust their upcoming draft picks to build asap, ideally with a better GM but naturally it is what it is, but hey he might get fired 🤞

Still in shock they just wasted a year of McDavid

in which he was relatively similar to Gretz & Mario

This year was a good start and I'd like to see him push for a 60-point pace next year OR complete his evolution into a giant piece of man-ass on skates that routinely hits 45+ points but is a physical force. Both would be super ideal.

There's a well-received CBJ AGM that has Edmonton acquiring Jones for Bear, a 2nd and a 4th. This is a tangible upgrade on that deal. All biases aside, Bear is a very good, young defenceman. He's had some noticeable gaffes this season but he's worth an early second minimum.

I can add more but the only stipulation is that it's likely coming from the 2023 draft.

Sorry, this deal isn't viable for CHI. Paying for the Cap Dump although partially retained doesn't do anything. Plenty of FA on the market so no point paying from our point of view.

It's a good thing that Koskinen isn't a cap dump then.

Well-received by Oil fans, I'm sure. No Jackets fan would touch that.
