Can Benning Make the Playoffs Next Season

Created by: Dynasty_Mode
Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: May 26, 2021
Published: May 26, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
All contracts are as projected by Evolving Hockey. Surprisingly decent wiggle room all for the price of a first round pick. Van could go after a bigger fish with their cap space to spare.

If the Sabres trade Eichel, Reinhart, and/or Risto for prospects and picks then that trade is fine and makes perfect sense.

Just went with what Evolving Hockey projects. They've been pretty close on most but I definitely agree with their Petterson projection being off.

This was a quick thought experiment that came out of a previous roster that I spent a little more time on: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/453511 and spent a little more time writing about: https://dynastymode.blogspot.com/2021/05/how-to-fix-buffalo-sabres.html. I honestly think they have to trade all those guys for picks and embrace the tank.

There is some cap space to spare to make some other moves and they only have to be better than LA, ANA, SJ, CGY and the 5th place team in the Central next season. I got kinda lazy on this one and didn't finish the thought entirely.

But you can understand how a fan base who hasn't tasted the post season in a decade my have trouble with that - (sports is suppose to be entertainment after all, which the Sabres may be failing at unless you are a masochist in which case they are doing fine)

Oh absolutely, I just don't see any way that the Sabres can ice a competitive team without burning it to the ground again. I live in Edmonton so I definitely understand a long suffering fans' psyche and an adverse reaction to a re-started re-build. I was honestly surprised there weren't riots at the end of the Chiarelli tenure.
