Buffalo could use another right side defenseman a lot more than another left. They have plenty of young left side defenders in the system already.

Hahaha yeah I have no clue how to gauge what they'd want for Gibson. McCann and Blueg are at least RFA's which give them control. Goalies don't really bring back a ton in trades if my memory serves correctly but I can't remember the last time a top tier goalie has been traded.

Theres never been a goalie like Gibson traded in the history of the league, closest thing is Roy but he forced MTL to move him.

Would take alot more than this to even get ANA on the phone

If i might play devils advocate..

If the Pens were to sell the farm (with the exception of sid..), how quickly does that rebuild turn the 'Burgh around? Obviously keep the pieces you need to build around; but they'd probably be on par with LA or NY. Speaking of NY... while this roster looks great on paper, it also looks like NYR rosters of the past with recycled players, piecing a team together for the vets (I've lived through this pain).

Sid is gonna play until he's 40.. imagine that guy with some seriously talented youth on the roster, again

Can't see it happening. The core is still there. They said that prior to the 2016-17 B2B cups. "Was their window closed? Are the stars too old?" While they are definitely older and not the elite force they were, Geno/Sid/Letang are still top players in the NHL and having a strong center roster of Sid/Geno/Carter is pretty solid if you can fill in the wings with some guys who can score some gritty goals in the playoffs... *cough* Hornqvist *cough*

Blow it up after those guys are gone. While they could be LA or NY they could also be BUF or NJD. Ride these guys into the sunset and give them their best shots and tear it down when they're gone IMO.

It’s a rule that Pittsburgh fans most follow. Dump Pettersson on the Sabres even though they have 100 Ld prospects that are close to making the NHL.

I mean it's also a rule that Sabres fans think they're close to being an NHL team, so there's that.

🤣 good one

Also although I agree with you and Petterson would be a good addition we don't need him unless* we keep Eichel then he can come if Eichel leaves we have 3 younger LD who all played in the NHL this year and should get time. Dahlin - sammuellson - Bryson/Borgen

Honestly, most of the time when I send out a trade for no player in return, it's just to dump cap, it could be to any team. I don't have enough knowledge about other teams farm systems to be like oh they need this guy or they need that guy. Getting rid of Petterson was solely to make room for POJ and Buffalo was just at the top of the teams list lol

I mean, you're not wrong at all we tried with Lundqvist, McD and.. checks notes.. yeah.. So I don't really have a leg to stand on. I would have given an arm and four fingers from my opposite hand to see Hank win a cup so I totally get it.

BUT.. you did say it. Letang, Crosby, Geno are still elite players in this league so, just to play devils advocate again... imagine the return you get for some of them. I don't have a horse in this race, was just proposing a scenario. They did just get bounced from the first round with a very similar roster, so it was just something that came to mind. (and yes, my guys were at the knicks game instead of playing meaningful hockey lol)

Letang and Geno have one year on their contracts so I'm not sure what you'd get for them and usually when you trade the best player in the trade you lose a trade, although I don't necessarily think that fits the Gibson-ANA scenario as I am not sure how much they will be contending for the duration of his contract, which is why trying to snag a haul for him now to load up on more assets I think is a better idea.
