Barkov gets more than 10 Mil

Also, no way Fox only gets 6.25

And now you have no $ to pay laf

If Barkov walks, he's easily making more money than that. FLA would be ecstatic to grab him at that price, even $10m, and they'd give him the full 8 years. If Barkov hits FA, the Tavares contract is probably pretty close to what he gets.

Shesty is good but not that good yet, overpay in my mind. If Fox is getting over $6 it’ll be more than 2 years as well. What did you do with Buch. Highly doubt Kakko gets $4 mil until he produces something. Same with Kravtsov. You overshot all the RFA contracts and underpaid Barkov and Mika.

Ya, I agree. I think thats the absolute minimum for Barkov and Zibanejad, and the absolute minimum for Fox on a one year deal. The way it can work is if they can find a way to ditch trouba and kreider, but I don’t see that happening.

Barkov would also be a silly sally to walk away from 10 million (he'll make 10..) in a state with no income tax!

Rangers don't need another high priced center; they need one that can win face-offs. Their offense was top ten in the league (minus pp which is odd..but they love to pass (up opportunities) on the man advantage). Winning face-offs means more possession, means more chances in the offensive zone, means more goals for a team that was already scoring goals with the best of 'em. We have the scorers and playmakers; and the future.. we can't mortgage it because we have one summer with 24 million to play with.

What they need to focus on is the defensive side of the puck. They need to go out and hunt for a solid two way center, and add some tough vets to the bottom six; since our middle two lines were quite literally a mirror images (and obviously the talent gap). As much as I love Smitty; they need someone like him with a little more talent and who knows.. maybe Lundkvist doesn't sign and we keep Smith around, while adding another defensive minded defensemen for the right side.

I'm in purgatory as much as the rest of Rangers nation. I'm sure this is the furthest thing from a correct answer and I'm sure i'll be flamed for this response .. but to me they have the offense; they just need to round out the defensive side. If they can do that without selling the farm, hand out the right contracts and save some cap space; they've taken the right steps forward and are ahead of schedule.

Yeah Shesty might be high. Everyone else is essentially at minimum/discount, and the cap is still tight - and nothing for Miller and Lafreniere the next season.

It looks the same if it Eichel. I don’t see the cap working.

Rangers desperately need a center that’s hard to play against. Currently too soft, not physical enough up the center. They need a 200ft guy, good defensively, has character and a leader.

I was just seeing what Barkov would look like

Well, Strome (7m) + Zibanejad (10) could cost just as much.

I like Strome.
I don’t like going Zibanejad- Strome-Chytil down the middle.

I don't either (past this season). My bad, I should have clarified; He's our guy for *this coming season*.

-good contract
-already has the chemistry with our best player
-has potential to repeat previous two seasons point totals
-if so could be a great trade chip at the deadline

You are right, if he repeats those point totals his next contract is going to be at least 6.

Lundkvist will sign, he only delayed it a year because of covid and the uncertainty that comes with it

Ekholm would have to be extended, but hes old and it blocks Jones unless he goes to nashville in this scenario

For sure, I was just thinking as a stop gap; at least for Nils first season. As far as jones.. some of the other d prospects.. and forward prospects; we're unfortunately not going to keep them all. This was just one (maybe not great) scenario where we can make a move for a vet defensmen that is a step up from smitty and has playoff experience.
