Created by: Krahntinuum
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: May 26, 2021
Published: May 27, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
G - Driedger; LW - Tatar; 3C - Getzlaf; 1RD - Barrie. Requires trading Koskinen - likely have to use a prospect like Bear to move that contract without retaining salary. Sign & protect Nuge and Barrie before exp draft. Protected List: McDavid, Draisaitl, Nuge, Puljujarvi, Yamo, Archibald, Kassian, Nurse, Klefbom, Barrie, Smith. Sign pending RFA's Yamo, Khaira, Benson, Shore. Sign pending UFA's Larsson, Smith, after exp draft before free agency. Sign UFAs Tatar, Getzlaf, Driedger in free agency. Hide Turris in AHL to save $1.125M cap. Could easily replace G Driedger with Mrazek for about the same money.

Additional Details:
Isles likely trade Varlamov and need a cheap backup for Sorokin

EDM
  1. 2021 5th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Koskinen is an upgrade to Ducks current backups. Bear is a top 4 RD on a good salary. More than pays for the Koski salary.
This deal might also be executed with Seattle. Kraken take Koskinen for Oilers to expose Bear to draft. Bear played junior in Seattle.

I don't think Driedger is the saving grace you're looking for. He couldn't help FLA, who arguably has a better defense than Edmonton does.

Fair point. I think the Oilers would still expect Mike Smith to play half the games unless Driedger gets hot. I agree Florida's defense is good, maybe better then Edmonton, but the Oilers were top 10 in goals against and 7th in team save%. Their team defense isn't bad and will likely improve if Klefbom can return. Driedger is an upgrade on Koskinen, and cheaper.
