Lol no way the pens are giving up John Marino without an overpayment coming back. Like Severson, Wood, a 1st, and probably Zacha. You can have MP or Matheson for that return lol

No. MP is worth probably two thirds or a third and fourth cuz that contract he’s on. And the return for Marino would not even be close to what u listed. Maybe we do Wood, Boqvist, Vukojevic, and NYI 1st for Marino and a 3rd/4th

Maybe…year one Marino but he took a pretty massive step backwards this year. He’s 24 also not like he’s a 20-21 year old.

This year vs last year

50.63cf% 51.15ff% 51.16xgf% 56gp 6g 20a 26p

Still think he has good value but hardly what you want to see after you give a guy a sizable contract

Absolutely not, Wood is simply a not very good 3rd liner, and Marino is a young (lower end) top pair guy...

First, Severson is better than Marino. So NJD is already at a loss.
Wood, Zacha and a top-5 pick should get at least Guentzel added, probably more.

Marino would be nice. And I'm sure Reilly Walsh would appreciate playing with his def partner again.
But this is not a reasonable counter-offer.

No MP is worth more than that. He isn’t on a bad contract lol. And yes Marino would be worth that because the pens have ZERO incentive to trade him. Especially since they have no RHD behind him and Letang. So they’d need a top 4 RHD that’s nhl ready coming back. And since they literally have no reason to move him, it would have to be a massive overpay. Why would the pens help out a rival and give them a young top 4 D that has potential to be a top pair d and be on a steal of a contract. That makes no sense.

The problem with those stats is that he spent half the year either playing on his off hand side because of injuries or with Matheson. He played just as good as last year, if not better once he got paired with MP. And just over 4 million per year is hardly a sizable contract for a top 4 d entering his prime. The pens have literally ZERO incentive to trade him so yes, they’d require an overpay. Especially to a division rival on top of that.

No severson really isn’t better than Marino. I understand the Homer bias but he really isn’t. People consider this year to be a down year for Marino and Severson had one of his best, if not his best year and still was only slightly better than Marino this year based on advanced metrics. But going based off the past 2 years, Marino beats Severson in like every category. And some of those categories by A LOT.
And who said anything about a top 5 pick? The devils also have the isles pick.
But since Marino is younger, signed til he is like 30 to what likely will be an absolute steal of a contract, is better than Severson (who would be the best of the NJ pieces coming back in my deal), NJ being a division rival, and the pens having absolutely ZERO incentive to trade him. There is no reason for the pens not to ask for a monster overpay in return.

penguins counter with Hughes for a 7th.
It's about how this looks.

on a side note, I can't wait till hughes is owed a contract next year, so NJ fans can come down to reality on what his value really is.
