If I’m CBJ I wouldn’t even take Jones for Marner straight up, and you’re asking for a first also. Someone has GoLeafsGo syndrome.

This is hilarious considering how bad jones has been lately and that he's a ufa in one year

Columbus gonna have to add big. Jones has never been the player he was hyped up to be, but he's looked significantly worse the past bit. His defensive numbers are middling and his offence has just been 'good' for all the icetime and power play he gets.

Why would they trade for Jones without extending him? Why would they trade Marner for a pending UFA at all? Just because the author didn’t put the extension doesn’t mean you can’t use common sense and generally surmise Jones would be extended in this scenario.

Also Breaking: Elite defenseman having down year on a close to being a lottery team. Imagine that?!

Why would we assume there is an extension in place? Why would we assume jones wants an extension with the leafs? Why would we assume an extension at an inflated cost is a good thing?
Ufa lowers values in trades
Breaking, hes not an elite defender and never has been.

Just last night they reported he's not resigning. So Jones is a rental now.

Merzlikins will not be a throw-in in a Jones trade; he's too important here, being both the starter AND expansion exempt.

Marner is interesting, but this isn't the way to go for us.

Ya I was not sure honestly. Id like to see what trade you see working with Jones (resigned) and Marner

I'm frankly not sure, mostly because I think the Marner proposals of late are a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to being on the cusp of an unexpected Game 7.

No its not, they could win 7-0 tomorrow and most people still want him gone. Salary is too high up front and he is the worst contract. The way he held out still pisses me off. Id move him if we were getting a top line dman who would resign, and apparently CBJ had intertest in Marner the other year
