The Pens except Tufte is a solid prospect plus two 3rds which the pens need picks.

Tufte is solid? Guy is 23 and he can't even produce in the AHL. The picks definitely don't make up the value either.

Tufte has 24 points in his first 90 AHL games 😧

Even for an early 20s player that's rough

Meh or mediocre probably a better descriptor

The Kase OS is really interesting actually I'm not sure about the timing or the minimum QO etc. but maybe that works and is brilliant and then he's totally CC

Pettersons vaule is not any more he played sheltered minutes on the third d pairing and has multiple years left on his contract at 4 mil plus. A sheltered third pair dman at 4 mil don't have a lot of trade value. POJ will pass him in the depth chart next year

In this scenario hes non tendered, the 1.4 is a placeholder so it doesn't take compensation

He's worth more than an AHL bum and some throwaway picks regardless of his deployment.

You won't get a 2nd for him if thats the deciding factor, not after getting outplayed by both Matheson and POJ

Pettersson had the best defensive results of any Pens d-man this year. He sure as hell didn't get outplayed by Matheson and POJ.

Pens are better off keeping him rather than trading him for nothing

He is worth a 2nd tops so 2 thirds and a prospect are better for a team that lacks picks and prospects. Tufte is 23 and could get better. Remember that Dumo, Rust were at 23. Also guys that helped win 2 cups like Sheary, Wilson, Kunhackle, made no impact in the NHL until after they were 23. There are hundreds of other examples.

Tufte isn't a prospect. He has no value. Getting doesn't improve the Pens prospect pool at all. He's 23 and can't even consistently produce in the AHL.

Your examples are garbage as well. Dumoulin is a d-man, they take longer to develop, he also had a far better scoring rate in the AHL at the same age than Tufte as a defenceman. Rust had better numbers in the AHL when he was 22. Sheary was more than a point per game at 23 in the AHL. Wilson and Kuhnhackl were 4th liners. Nice try.

Ok take out Tufte and you get two thirds if you think Petterson is worth more you belong in the nut house. I'm a Pens fan and now he is the 3rd best LD 4th if you count POJ . He might have good numbers but if you only play shelter minutes and don't then you can jack Johnson.
3rd pair left handers are not in high demand especially at $4 mil.

I couldn't give less of a sh*t about the fact that you're a Pens fan, it doesn't make you right. Pettersson is a relatively young defenceman signed to a reasonable contract and had the best defensive results of any Pens d-man this year. He's worth more than some mid-round picks. End of story.

He's their 2nd best LHD after Dumoulin.

He also happened to have good results last year when he played most of the season on the 2nd pair with Marino. So there goes your "he's a 3rd pair d-man" narrative.
