I think that’s a good offer for Jones, a very good offer. I do think there is going to be bidding war though and Heinola or Perfetti is going to have to be a piece.

That might be fine for a rental Seth Jones, But an extended Jones will cost far more then that.

It's not a good offer, and yes, one of those guys would have to be a piece.

Welcome to the world of having a player you think is worth way more than he is. Somebody is going to pay a 1st and a top flight prospect for Jones. A (statistically better) replacement player, B prospect, and a bevy of picks including a 1st is a damn good package for any player. Very close to what RoR went for.

There is no chance Winnipeg gives up Samberg and a 1st for a rental. No one is giving up that much.

NHL players are not fungible assets. You can't "translate" like that. There's specific needs. DeMelo, for example, actually doesn't do us much good in a Jones trade, because of his age.

He’s literally a year older than Jones... signed cheaper and for another 3 years. Solid 2nd or 3rd pairing guy who plays well with young players cause he’s defensively. Not sure how that wouldn’t be of value. Not saying he’s elite or anything but a very serviceable dean that every team would love to have.

Jones is a #1D; his loss means we're likely rebuilding. An older, lesser player is not an adequate substitute in any way, especially since there's better ways to acquire that sort of asset if we need one. We need blue-chip futures, because either we retool (if we can replace Jones immediately) or rebuild (if we can't). In none of these cases does DeMelo contribute anything of significant value.

The thing is though, DeMelo doesn’t factor into the value of the trade but it is nice to have a stand in come back in the trade. Even without DeMelo it’s a very, very good value.
