I agree Marner shouldn't be traded, but let's say the Habs knock the Leafs out in game 7, what happens? I believe one of the big 4 would get moved so that the leafs could afford better depth, just a outsiders perspective.

Matthews -are you nuts? No way he gets traded.
Tavares - expensive and older so tough to trade and expect much in return. Don't get me wrong he still has value, but not a lot of teams that he makes sense for.

So you are left with either Marner or Nylander. Nylander should bring you a nice little return. Marner, however, brings a huge return and clears a lot of cap. Dubas has to consider it, but like I said Leafs shouldn't trade Marner. Things may become very interesting in Toronto if Leafs get bounced. Either way good luck to all you Leaf fans, no sarcasm, I have a soft spot in my heart for long suffering fan bases. Except you Justin Bieber, you still suck!

Marner will not be traded but Leafs Nation is doing a really good job at making sure he won’t want to resign with this organization.

If he demands another ridiculous overpayment that's not a bad thing ...

Completely agreed, big fan of the Leafs. And this year the Wild (and their type of play) have also won me over. Soft spot for them too now except against the Sharks.

The Leafs absolutely should trade one of the three forwards making $10M+, I think it's just untenable to win with that imbalance of the cap. Having said that, I think it will likely be Nylander. For the simple reason, I don't believe Marner's contract is so easy to move and I don't because of that I don't believe you get the return you think.

Of course, other Leaf fans are going to cry reading that but it's the truth. If there were no cap I'd love to keep them all and just add to the core. But that's not the reality of it. Even dealing Nylander means you don't want to add too much, if any, payroll back. Within 12 months you have to resign Hyman, Rielly, and Campbell (or replace them). That pretty much accounts for Nylander's hit. Sum total, you've lost Nylander and added nothing.
