Trying to think like Lou

Description
Lou Traded for Palmieri for a reason. I think he likes him and will resign him. Do I want to resign him... I’ll make my decision on how the playoffs conclude but I think he wants him.

Also I believe Zajac bought a house in Connecticut so if he retires does he work for Bridgeport?

Chara can easily be switched back with Andy Greene if he keeps playing, but as the season has gone on he has lost the step that he was holding on to and I think he’s been great for the Isles but he’s 38. Listen chara is 44 but he’s also a mutant. Either will work because I believe next year Bolduc is going to go through what Dobson did last season and they need experienced players to teach him.

I’m 90% sure Cizikas will take a pay cut like Martin did. I know everyone is on this line right now but if you look at other 4th lines in the NHL ours is fine. Getting older but fine.

Beau is going to be paid more than Pelech. Pelech has intangibles only isles fans truly understand but points are where the money is. Pelech still getting a huge pay raise though. Beau is padding his wallet in the playoffs and has been our best all around player.

Sorokin will sign a two year deal to get a large pay raise when Varlys contract expires. I see a lot of Isles fans trading varly, I wouldn’t. I love sorokin and have his jersey but goaltending is a weird position and we don’t wanna get caught with a sophomore being our only option.

Ladd’s getting Robida’d, he only played 1 professional game this season (and it was in the AHL). I think Lou is going to force him to take a physical with team doctors and he’ll probably fail like Lupal did for the Leafs, this opens the door for Seattle to choose basically Leddy with a normal pick or Hickey+assets. I think they’ll take the assets. If they take leddy well then you have money to spend.

I’ve had komarov to the Sens on a few of these. I think he will fit well with them. PK, awesome with young players, intangibles, etc. and you get bellows (I like him but the organization does not seem to) who probably fits in on their 3rd line right away.

Also I think the Sound Tigers (I refuse the re-brand) will be fixed in the next two seasons. I believe we will soon be keeping our draft picks to restock the cupboards and maybe sign a few Russian free agents.

Let’s go Islanders!!!

You always have to account for Greene's 2million cap hit of bonus money in these things for 2021-22

I think you’re overrating Komarov, you’re gonna have to give up value to dump his contract and Bellows isn’t highly regarded enough for that anymore, let alone also bringing back a 3rd. And the Sens aren’t looking for a cap dump anyway, we’re probably gonna be in the wild card conversation next yaar and are really only looking to add a 2C behind Norris in terms of forwards. We have a lot of young guys that will push for spots (Pinto and Formenton probably make the team out of camp and I’d imagine Abramov and Sokolov get some looks). So we aren’t really looking to take on cap dumps, and Komarov and Bellows don’t align with our needs.

pelech and sorokin will both get more - Pelech probably around 4.5-4.75 depending on term. Sorokin at least 4 mill. When you take into account Greene's bonuses there is no chance they will be able to re-sign Palmieri.

Anatoli Golyshev came over for a reason - apparently bought a house on LI. His floor is a 3rd line scoring winger but he has 50-60 pt potential. He will be on the NHL roster next season, he didn't come to be a healthy scratch.

Ottawa doesn't need that deal. I don't think either player cracks Ottawa next year.

I think Varlamov being traded/selected by Seattle may be a real possibility. Sorokin can use some cheaper competition that can be signed in free agency.

So I’m using the Toews’ contract as Pelech’s comparable. Even cap friendly has it about a 85% comparable. He’s getting 4.1 over 4 years. He’s better offensively, Pelech’s better defensively. I think it evens out and in a flat cap world he’ll get around 4. Sorokin knows he will be PAID in 2 years if he turns out the way we are all praying it does. He will be getting big money for probably a six year contract from when’s he’s 28 to 34 years old. Best value for both sides in his prime. No 1st year goalie gets the big payday after 22 regular season games. 2 season to proves he can play consistently at a top 10-15 goalie rate and the money is all his, I’ll personally drive the brinks truck up for him.

Also do we know if Greene’s bonus’s hit because Lee was put on LTIR? I believe if Lee was hurt before that we should be fine.

I unfortunately learned my lesson with Jan Kovar, I’d love for him to win a job out of training camp and be what Kovar was hyped up to be. A goalie coming over from the KHL and a Player especially forwards are very different. The Panarin and Kaprisovs of the world are extremely rare.

Listen I’d love it but I watched Flipper pack Kovars bags for him in the pre-season of 2018-19 lol

What was the date Lee was put on LTIR? I thought Lee’s injury mitigated this and still allowed us to buy at the deadline.

you could be right on pelech, but im pretty confident sorokin gets at least 4 mill. He's an RFA with arbitration rights. Has a solid sv% + GAA, plus the 1st rd win and setting records in his first year. Unfortunately he's not taking a discount.

Greene's bonuses affect next years cap. 2 mill. I know Lou wants to sign everyone, but he can't. Beauvillier, sorokin, and pelech are the priorities . Palmieri is definitely gone IMO but Cizikas will likely get priced out as well.

I knew Kovar wouldn't make It in the NHL. It's known that he was carried by his star linemates. Once they left he couldn't produce at the same rate, he was a complimentary player. Golyshev is a line driver and his numbers in his draft year are extremely impressive. He's 5th all time U21 scoring in the KHL behind Kuznetsov, Kaprizov, Buchnevich, tarasenko. I'm not saying he'll be a star but the guy 99.9% is a 3rd liner at the very least, but like I said he has top 6 upside. He has a very translatable skillset.
