Initial Creation Date: May 31, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Picked up hyman to be a puck hound for suzuki and caufield, essentially the same role he fulfilled in Toronto for Matthews and manner. Love the way hyman fits with our 2 up and coming stars on the first line. Evans takes Tatar's spot, and our 3rd line becomes a shutdown line while Gallagher can produce his own offense even in a shutdown role. Evans on the wing opens up the 4C for Poehling but I brought in glendening on the wing to take defensive zone draws and in case Poehling struggles. Brought back perry as he can be expendable throughout the lineup and fill in for anyone during injuries. Graves give us size but he's also much more mobile then our other sized defenseman and he's young on a team friendly deal. Kulak and Fleury fight for the 6th D spot. This team competes in the Atlantic next year. Caufield and Toffoli lead your team in goals, suzuki and Caufield lead your team in points.

You offered him 15mil; I would bet some fat cash that Toronto would just offer him more. Longer term; lower AAV, cash heavy. MTL wouldn't be able to keep up with TOR bank. Also I think Hyman has no desire to leave TOR.

colorado is not adding cap by moving Graves for Drouin. Montreal fans have to find a new team to dump Drouin to, its not going to be the avs

Your kidding right?! Montreal is more than capable of keeping up with the Toronto bank in fact given that Montreal actually has slightly more cap room available and Toronto still needs to sign 3F, 1D and 1G minimum next year compared to Montreal's 4F minimum, I would say that Toronto is the ones who can't keep up. Even still I don't think the Leafs let Hyman walk without a fight, but I doubt they can reasonably go as high as 5 Mil per year on any length of contract.

A good middle 6er of similar cap hit and age or a good pick and an NHL ready prospect who can jump into the 3rd line.

Cant take on cap, and Drouin at his cap hit to play in the middle 6 is well too expensive, they can sign a guy to fill that role in UFA or extend Saad for less money than Drouin

lehkonen a 3rd and Ylonen? now ylonen needs probably 1 year more of development.

they would probably be more interested in a trade like that.
Personally I don't think they trade graves, they just chances in XD that hes not selected or look at a sweetener to avoid him being picked. Trading him doesnt really make sense unless they are getting a direct talent replacement for him without taking on cap

His first choice will be Toronto and they will try their best to keep him. If for whatever reason he doesn't stay in Toronto, there will be a lot of teams calling him and I doubt he picks Montreal.

The leafs could easily sign Hyman for 5 mil. I doubt they resign Andersen which would free up $6m, if Seattle takes kerfoot that is another $3.5m freed up. $5m is only $2.75m extra from his current contract. They will be fine.

Youre taking what I said as a slight to MTL.

Toronto can offer Hyman term and a good aav, they have a good relationship. They can offer cash heavy and bonuses... MTL cannot keep up with the TOR bank because Tor will not let Hyman walk easily and it would not be worth it for MTL to offer 5 mil x 7 years when Toronto can just offer similar deals or less with more term and then also have the ability to offer cash heavy AND THEN Tor has the relationship already. Its not "MTL is poor", its TOR has more going for the player and relationship plus they have a cashload behind them.

Drouin to COL needs to stop being a thing. Right now Drouin has zero value because of his separation from the team, who knows what is going on with him.

I’d much rather not bring cap back if they moved him and did what they could to bring Saad back.

a healthy drouin with retention would work but it would have to be after the expansion draft. my guess is graves gets picked though.

I understand what you are saying about the relationship between the player and team but that really has nothing to do with the "Toronto Bank". You keep saying that Toronto can add heavy cash bonuses and having the "cashload behind them" or that Toronto has the ability to "offer heavy cash". You don't realize that in order to match a 5 mil x 7 year deal that eats up 5 Mil of the Leafs 11 MIl cap space, which in turn means that Toronto will only have 6 Mil to sign 2F 1D and 1G. You night be able to sign Spezza, Simmonds, Bogosian or Hutton and Rittich for the 6 Mil left but that means you are losing guys like Anderson, Foligno, Nash, Dermott and Galchenyuk all for nothing. Besides that Montreal is just as capable of handing out bonus laden contracts, they have the "bank" to front load a contract or even the ability to go 7 years at 6 Mil for Hyman. The Leafs really don't have that luxury, they could sign the contract but then they would have to move one of their big 6 contracts (Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Reilly or Muzzin) by the beginning of next season but that would make them significantly weaker. For Montreal to Sign Hyman at 6 Mil means we definitely have to move on from Tatar and depth options like Lehkonen, Armia and Chairot and maybe have to move Drouin but its much more manageable than Toronto's options at 6 Mil. I honestly think Hyman would prefer to stay a Leaf but I don't know if the Leafs can afford him, Foligno, Nash and Dermott among others even with their "bank" depth.
