Trades
1.
NJD
  1. Weber, Shea
Additional Details:
Yes, Montreal won the Subban for Weber deal. But Bergevin could’ve banked on the value of Subban and got WAY more for him. You’ll see why in the next trade
2.
MTL
  1. Draisaitl, Leon
Additional Details:
4th overall pick in 2016
EDM
  1. Subban, P.K.
Additional Details:
There were many reasons this deal didn’t happen. First off, Montreal didn’t want to pull the trigger to draft Puljujarvi, but rather draft Dubois if he fell to #4. For the sake of this post, let’s say that this happened. Along with this pick, Draisaitl, who is now one of the best players in the whole world, was being sent over. One of Darnell Nurse of Oskar Klefbom were also reportedly in the deal. Edmonton was a little hesitant to make this deal, so we’ll just say the trade was pick #4 (Dubois) and Draisaitl for Subban
3.
WPG
Selected with the 4th pick in 2016
    4.
    MTL
    1. Kane, Patrick
    Additional Details:
    Corey Crawford
    CHI
    1. Price, Carey
    Additional Details:
The least likely of trades to happen on this list. The more absurd report was Kane AND Toews for Price. This deal would’ve been a steal for Montreal, getting Kane and a solid starter in Crawford, who would be playing much closer to home
    5.
    TBL
    1. Drouin, Jonathan
    Additional Details:
Don’t really need to say much on this one
    6.
    MTL
    1. Stone, Mark
    Additional Details:
Brannstrom and a 2nd is all it took for Ottawa to send Stone to Vegas. Romanov is as highly touted, and I put 2 seconds in the deal because of the inter-division cost
    VGK
    1. Romanov, Alexander
    2. 2021 2nd round pick (MTL)
    Additional Details:
2020 2nd (MTL) [Montreal selected Luke Tuch]
    7.
    MTL
    1. Hughes, Quinn [RFA Rights]
    Additional Details:
With Montreal having Dubois, I don’t see them taking KK in 2018. Instead, they take Quinn Hughes to bolster the blue line
    VAN
    1. Kotkaniemi, Jesperi [RFA Rights]
    8.
    MTL
    1. Mete, Victor [RFA Rights]
    OTT

      9.
      MTL
      1. Dumba, Matt
      Additional Details:
Alex Galchenyuk for Matt Dumba. 1-for-1. Minnesota desperately (at the time) needed a top center, and Galchenyuk was potentially going to become that guy. Montreal needs help on the blue line. With Minnesota’s defensive depth (and the fact they maybe could’ve kept Scandella or signed someone else as a UFA) they could afford to make this move
      MIN
      1. Anderson, Josh
      Additional Details:
Though I’m placing Anderson in this deal, Galchenyuk is the one being dealt
      10.
      11.
      MTL
      1. Bear, Ethan
      2. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
      Additional Details:
A few years prior, this deal made a lot of sense. McDavid could have a solid producing winger who can also protect him, and they give up a defenseman (which isn’t the end of the world considering the guys they have in the AHL AND considering free agency)
      12.

yeah this team is crazy and (kind've?) realistic. I remember the rumored Draisaitl + 2016 1st + for Subban, just imagine that happening jeez

Thankfully Bergy (an original Bolt) had a massive brain cramp and thought Drouin could play center

However, main reason it didn't happen was due to Chiarelli's fear of Subban's 9M cap hit and the fact Bergevin was being too greedy. Bergevin also wanted a roster defenseman going back to montreal.

Either way, Chiarelli was a one of kind. It's as if he was desperate as f*** to acquire a defenseman no matter the cost lol. Aside from Drasaitl-Subban trade, Chiarelli also considered the alternative of trading Taylor Hall for Cody Ceci before finally settling on Hall-Larsson trade. Both trade scenario would've inevitably have him trade a future Hart trophy winner out of Edmonton.

If Subban's cap hit was lower than 9M or Dorion didn't have to go through Melnyk for Hall-Ceci trade, situation would've been much worse in Edmonton.

Kane-Price is probably fake news because Kane already had 3 Cups and no way he was getting traded.

With Sergachev and Draisaitl, Habs wouldn't have have gotten the 3rd pick. Yes Price had a down year, but Drasaitl would've helped and their D-core would've been much better. (Markov and Sergachev > Alzner and Weber)

Also, based on the trade condition from the Karlsson trade, there's no way Dorion would've traded a star player like Mark Stone to an Eastern Conference team, let alone a Divisional rival. There's a reason why Sens didn't trade Hoffman to Florida.
