Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: May 31, 2021
Published: May 31, 2021

"Werenski tells he only wants to go to Detroit."

Kekäläinen tells him to f*ck off. He doesn't run that show.

Yeah no we’d get more for him than that. He’s an rfa after his next deal and we’d move him before this next season is over. Making him a 2 year rental at least. We’d get a lot more.

I doubt half these players want to sign to a rebuilding Detroit team

Got news for you, Both Jones and Werenski are getting far more then $7,000,000 per each. Both get at least 7 x $8,000,000 if not 7 x $8,500,000 each.

Not necessarily true, I can see 100% the Trouba scenario happening with Werenski if he tells Jarmo next season it's Detroit only.

Doesn't matter, This deal would go done next year, It would be similar to the Trouba situation where he only wanted to go to New York City. If Zach Werenski makes it plain to Jarmo that he only wants to go to Detroit then that lessens Zach's value no different then Trouba and the Jets.

Well ain't that some wishful thinking. I can understand player with a NMC or a player without contract having a say on where they end up in a trade or sign into. But normal players with no contract clauses starting to run that show seems to outlandish and shouldn't ever become a part of this league. That'd kill the point of ever running a small market team.

Why? The guys under contract and any team can bid on his services

True, But if he makes it clear that he's going home to Detroit in 2 years that lessens his value dramatically just like Trouba. No GM is going to give up that much if they feel that they can't resign him in a year or two.

Imagine being so intense over 1M$

In a fraught economic climate like this

Where every thing trends to the low $ total

Well it happened with Trouba, What makes you think that it couldn't happen with Werenski?

The "family in Michigan" point for Jones is a liiiittle bit of a stretch lol I mean I have lots of family in Ottawa but it wouldn't be the reason I spend 7 years there

Super cool family no less!

Board games & bourbon enthusiasts each 🎉

Well first and foremost there's the distance. Winnipeg is far from everything and was a relatively bad team while Trouba was there. Columbus is much closer to bigger cities and all that jazz.

Columbus is also doing relatively well. They've made the playoffs consistently, this year being a huge outlier in terms of success. If Werenski is looking for success, well based on last few years Detroit is the last place he should go to.

There's also a clear role for the guy. No one is questioning/challenging his place as the 1LD of that team. Trouba never made it truly past Byfuglien.

Lastly, although this might be a bit conjecture point, but I'm not aware of Werenski having a spouse that'd require moving to a bigger city for her own career. That was the case with Trouba.

Trouba is a bad example. Winnipeg has the better, cheaper dman and a 1st rd pick.

It would be closer to Hronek and 2022 pick for Were ski...
