UFAs and Expansion

Description
Curious hypothetical here. UFAs don’t need to be protected, right?! So IF, in this example, Montreal wasn’t planning to re-sign Danault and Armia. Could the Wild trade Jordan Greenway to Montreal for the rights to Danault and Armia and negotiate new contracts after the expansion draft?
I happen yo think Armia for Greenway would be a good move for the Wild to swap a lefty for a righty.

I'd be disappointed if MTL does not offer at least as much to Danault. Man has shut down Crosby and Matthews during two playoffs in a row

To answer your question, Yes. In fact, I recall Philadelphia trading to acquire Kevin Hayes' contract even though it was about to expire and then signing him before he officially became a free agent. Look it up and make sure I'm right. My memory isn't all it used to be.

Why is Parise on LTIR??? he played in game 7 and I haven't seen anything about him being hurt.

I think Danault goes UFA and doesn't sign with MN before he tests the waters out in this scenario. He really is only hurting himself by signing before hitting the open market. At best he signs with MN after he's talked to other teams in the window before UFA starts.

I'm meh on Armia, if that's the price for him I'd left him walk. Something like Hartman's deal is what I'd sign him for. I think he re-signs with MTL, it's been a good fit for him there.

Ufa rights are often 7th round pick, or 5th-7th round pick

Wild have Boldly, & don't need Armia. I get the wild needing righties, but one shouldn't trade a young player for a player's right

Wild can just wait till free agency to sign Danault

Players can unofficially retire and go on LTIR so their team isn't penalized.

I just put him there to remove the caphit...I’m assuming he’s gone one way or another...

For that to happen they still need a specialist to prove they are unable to play, something like Brent Seabrook, Andrew Shaw or Marian Hossa. The Wild can't just put him on LTIR because they want his cap hit to go away.

They can get that for Parise. He has the injury history to back up a LTIR claim.

Can they get it when he just played in Game 7?

Look at Hossa, he played until the end of that R1 sweep and said no more because of the skin thing (his pay fell to $1m/yr).

Parise has had serious back problems. He could just say I'm done, I can't take more of this wear and tear on my back anymore. I don't think he'd go that route, yet. He still wants to play and is getting paid well for another year.
