Easy decision, no deal. Late third is already more than generous.

I’ll just retain some salary and trade him for a second to a team that actually wants a second pairing Dman

That's fine, wings are happy to not overpay here

Genuinely curious, what is it you don’t see in MP? His measurables are good, his fancy stats are good, his gap control is good, his age is good

He’s the obvious odd man in PIT out because of the Matheson contract but I see these absurd claims that he isn’t even worth a 3rd and honestly it makes 0 sense to me having watched him all season. I mean I’m what world is a second pairing Dman worth a 4th (yes he was on the third pair this year but that wasn’t really any insult to him, the pens had a very good defense)? I just don’t understand

His salary + play this year + flat cap. It's just riskier to take that contract on when he hasn't proven he can be a top 4 yet. If your telling me he isn't better then matheson, I am unsure why we would want to pay more for him. Nothing is really wrong with I'm, I just think yzermans philosophy is paying very little for players and MP could have nice upside, or could continue to slide with a heftier contract. I really have nothing against him and would want him on wings, just not for more then a 4th with the flat cap. I also know pens need to make moves and get cap space so this also diminishes his value from a wings perspective, meaning we can get him for less knowing pens situation. If you can get more elsewhere then I say do it, yzerman is very cerebral in his trades and I just think it would be a 4th or no go

I seriously doubt Yzerman brings Pettersson to Detroit at all. He's not going to bring in some with 4yrs left on a contract. Look at the moves he's made since coming Detroit. IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!!
