So Toronto fans become the GM. They do this move with the expectation of Seattle buying them both out so Toronto can re sign them for cheap. (they forget the part about having to add picks to do it and they don't care it will cost a metric ton of money to do so)

But Seattle accepts. Then they don't buy them out, keep them both and win the cup next year.

I thought Seattle could buy them out, but Toronto couldn't sign them? I remember the NHL changing the rules after the Capitals and Avalanche conspired to get Orpik back with the Caps for cheap, but Im not sure how they changed it.

lets just say seattle would trade them back but eat cap instead of buyout for the sake of the joke.
