Ryan Graves pre expansion deal

Created by: FullSend
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 2, 2021
Published: Jun. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I was thinking about this idea for a while and the fact that Graves is bound to be unprotected with Girard, Toews and Makar protected. He’s a top 4 defenseman that some Avs fans believe to be replaceable and could also be a nice solid add that could not only sub in for Klefbom until he’s ready, but anchor a very streaky Bear who has proven before that he has good underlying numbers and even better ones with a stable D partner on the left side. Maybe even help Bouchard flourish into a great offensive dman as well.

Is there a any deal to be made? If so what would the price be?

Disclaimer: don’t mind the forward lines and signings too much, I LOOSELY made a template on what the roster could be, just to make this AGM work, just mind the defensive pairing more

The value for Graves is likely a bit much (the picks would likely suffice) but the issue here is that Colorado has *zero* interest in any of our defensive prospects or young players (maybe Bouchard but no touchie). Their blueline depth is beyond absurd and they really only need to focus on a complimentary piece on the right-hand side over the next couple years.

I don't hate the Reinhart trade except one of Lavoie or the 2nd round pick needs to be removed. Reinhart is worth in the ballpark of a 1st and 2nd round pick, Murray is worth a fart in the wind.

Broberg will see a full season in the AHL. This year wasn't great for him and Samorukov is very clearly starting to emerge as a more NHL-ready option.

I think the bottom-six needs something better than the injection of Benson and Marody.

All valid points, like I said in the explanation; this is very loosely made, Benson and Marody were actually put in the lineup as essentially fillers 😂. This AGM was mainly aimed more or less towards a Graves deal, but yeah I do believe we would need another bottom 6 player in this situation, maybe a more stable 3rd C, I was thinking possibly Morgan Geekie, he’s not stable but he’s a right shot with an above 50% face off rate and not bad underlying numbers on the 4th line, he’s young, will likely be exposed and could be developed and create competition for McLeod to work hard for his spot or if it’s a winger, Zach Aston-Reese??

Jones has to be protected so why would the avs trade graves before the draft and could lose Jones as well

This makes no sense for them

Buffalo isn’t interested in a package that might be worth Sam Reinhart. A couple third line players and lottery tickets do not amount to a productive first line player. Making trades like this they don’t actually help the team at all are why the Sabres are where they are.
