    Alternatively if Seattle selects Vanecek:

Trade Schultz for a third round pick

Sign a veteran goalie in free agency to a 1x1 deal to backup Samsonov

People do that with RNH Hyman etc. quite often

    They don't get called 'mental'

(I mean I criticize it but not so harshly)

If one acknowledges analytics, context, etc. then it becomes easy to justify Danault getting so much please check out his SKATR chart it's exquisite

Dan-o is also such a smart & tactful player ✔

Go ahead and explain your outrage a little more please. Danault is regarded as the best two way center in the league by the leagues top superstars. The caps need a guy like that in their top 6. Given our team’s systems, I would also expect him to produce offensively.

If you want to be polite and rational and explain what you think he should get, go ahead. I’d appreciate not being called “mental” because you disagree with a number on the screen.

Sorry, very tired and saw danault getting that contract i couldn’t tell if it was a joke.
Yes he’s very good, maybe even elite defensively but he doesn’t drive much offensively. On that line maybe he could. I’d just hate giving 7 million dollars in a flat cap for the next couple of year to a shutdown centre. I agree that the caps could use a very good shut down centre, but for 7 million my goodness. I love watching him work every night, but I wouldn’t quite be as happy at 7 million. If you want to put that much value in 1 defensive centre go ahead

Every time I see people giving rnh first line centre money I get so freaking confused. You can see my response to the other guy about danault

If RNH and Danault switched situations currently

Danault outscores him easily this past season

And RNH sure doesn't get his usual 30 selke votes

    Same applies to Zach Hyman

The really crazy part is even though Danault struggles at goal scoring he probably finishes more of the chances Marner put on a platter for Hyman recently

No worries, I get way too into the arguments on here for no good reason lmao. It wasn’t a joke, but I see what you’re saying.

Danault is 28 and would be an amazing second line center for the remainder of the Ovi-Backstrom era in Washington. I was putting a lot of stock into his defensive capabilities when trying to come up with a number for his contract. He’s also a reliable half a point per game player over the course of the last few seasons. I think he could be a 50 point guy in DC, especially between Mantha, Ovie, Wilson, Oshie, Sprong, etc.

Maybe 5.5x5 is more reasonable? Or 4 years only so his contract expires with Ovie and Backstrom and we start the rebuild then?

5 or 5.5 for 4 or 5 years is what I think he’ll get. Again love danault, but for little offence 7 million in a flat cap for who knows how long is a little much. Hopefully we keep him though

I really can't see the Wild wanting Kuznetsov, no matter how much they could use a center. He just seems to be problem after problem lately, which doesn't seem like a good player to have around a young player like Kaprizov.

Danault is an amazing player, but I don't see him joining the Caps, at least not on a long term deal. With Lapierre and McMichael in the pipeline, any center they get will probably need to be on a 1 or 2 year deal so they have space for Lapierre and McMichael. Danault probably wants term and a dump truck of money, and can get that with other teams, so I would think the caps would have to massively overpay for him. Otherwise, I like the moves made, though I think the caps could get rid of Hagelin for a 3rd round pick. That might just be wishful thinking though.

no he's right, this is dumb. Why would you trade kuzy only to sign a 3rd line center with about half the production at nearly the same cost?
