Explanation. Vancouver needs cap space and rangers have. They get rid of Eriksson, a horrible contract, and holtby, an overpayed backup for van. eriksson costs a lot to move but instead rangers decide they want to move up int the draft so they trade a younger cheaper backup goalie and the 15oa pick for all of holtby and erikkson with the 9oa and a 2nd. pretty fair imo

i agree that its pretty fair. holtby didnt have a great year so he could have a comeback which could be great to mentor a young goalie like shesterkin. also getting rid of eriksson is huge so you have more space for hughes and petty

With how the Rangers dumped lundqvist do you really think he comes back except to retire as a ranger? And putting him in as the third goalie in rotation AGAIN certainly won’t convince him to come back. He may be the king but his time in a NYR uniform is done.

There are good players still at 15 so I agree with most on here the Vancouver trade is a good offer.

i signed him as a contract so he can just retire a ranger

I would take out our first pick in the Vancouver deal (maybe send 2nd or 3rd instead). If they are getting Georgiev and dumping two huge contracts, they would be worth their 1st.

You do that and there is no deal . Plain and simple Canucks are not using a top 10 pick to move cap when they can move it internally other ways .

Right now, with above deal, you would be moving 7 spots in 1st round. For that, you unload two huge contracts, get a great back-up goalie, and add a 4th pick.

In other words, you are valuing the Holtby/Ericsson dumps around a 6th round pick.

The trade should be: 9th oa + two cap dumps --> Georgiev, 2nd, 4th

Sure, but even if you value Georgiev at 7th round pick value, it doesn't add up.

#16 overall + #112 overall + #208 overall (Georgiev value) + [6th round value] = #9 overall

Subtract a 6th from both sides, add in Ericsson and Holtby, and the two cap dumps here are only valued at 6th rounder.

So keep Georgiev your 2nd and your 4 th , and we will buyout Virtanen and Holby and put Roussel in the minors and we get 7.5 more cap space and select 9 th. Not a big deal.

so holtby has value that is similar to georgiev. ill say this holtby>=georgie erikkson+9th=<15th. so erikkson<4th

Rangers get bent over in that Vancouver trade. That's really, really bad. If anything, at least grab a 4th liner the Rangers could use.

And the Columbus trade isnt much better.

With Buch and Eichel, who are you not re-signing? Fox? Zibanejad?
