Ready to Compete

Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 3, 2021
Published: Jun. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team will be ready to make a playoff push after years of loading up on assets. It is time to spend some money and attract some Free Agents to fill the holes. Barkov likely stays in Florida but Detroit needs to find another top 2 center regardless. Our 2021 6th pick i'm projecting to be a LD and the 2022 1st will be one of Wright, Lambert, Savoie (highly unlikely because we always get screwed in the lottery). I am not sure where we go at the Goalie position as I don't see us having anyone ready in the pipeline. A free agent signing or a trade will likely happen. I took a stab at Driedger, I think hes a one hit wonder but we can afford to offer him a prove it deal with our excess cap room.

As well Yzerman will likely find a few cap dumps to spend some of that excess cap room but I didn't bother wasting my time with that.

Our top 3 lines are highly skilled, might be missing some grit and out 4th line will beat the crap out of teams. The backend is young and not great yet, we do have room to add a Vet to help out if we choose.

What do you think?

Hopefully our top 3 in 2022 rhymes with Bane Lite, and in the long term can take the 1C role.

Yeah I agree. That would be ideal but with out lottery luck we will likely be picking 8-10 next year. I think next years roster will be a bit better then this year as long as we can stay healthy.

Honestly, I think the team takes a step forward in terms of quality of play, but slips in the standings. Looking at the teams below, Anaheim, New Jersey and Buffalo all have easier schedules next year than this year, and Detroit's schedule is harder next year as theyre playing in a tougher division. I think we're top 5 even without a lottery win. Wright, Lambert or Savoie would be a great pickup down the middle.

Yeah it will be interesting to see how teams do next year assuming they will be playing everyone again. I think the strength of divisions are similar for Detroit and New Jersey, the divisions are comparable. CAR and CBJ swap with BOS and BUF. Anaheim should be much better next year in that West division.
