I don't think Pittsburgh is the team for Bertuzzi for that kind of package. As much as Jarry didn't hold up in playoffs, they're thin in net behind him. To me it's more of a goalie coach issue now in Pittsburgh and they can't afford to move him without someone coming back since they already moved Murray.

If Jarry were to be traded they would sign a UFA goalie

That's a lot of moving parts though. & there's not really a free agent goalie that's better than Jarry this off-season. Think they'd decline it and keep Jarry.

    This doesn't work for Detroit.

Detroit have no need to trade for a goalie. Bernier has gone public with wanting to stay and can be resigned without having to give up anything in trade.
Neither does trading for a LD prospect make any sense, Detroit already have 4 of them under contract (Johansson, Viro, McIsaac, Sebrango) and Wallinder and Kotkansalo unsigned. Joseph may become a good defender someday but right now he's not what Detroit needs. Detroit needs one or two good veteran LD that can hold the fort until their prospects are ready and those are available in FA this year.

I can't see Pittsburgh making this offer and I can't see Detroit accepting it.

I agree Bertuzzi isn't what Pittsburgh needs they really don't need more grit. Their #1C and #2C can add all the grit Pittsburgh needs. Plus there is a rebuild coming and with Burke pretty much running the show he isn't going to trade away pick on players that don't fit. Why did Pittsburgh bring in Burke?

Pittsburgh isn't rebuilding as long as Crosby, Malkin, and Letang are there. Management has already come out and said they're going to build around the core and try to win as much as possible. Picks are always on the table with Burkie.

I don’t see Vrana getting that term or dollar from Yzerman. He hasn’t proven he can be a 7M player yet. That’s selling low on Bert especially if he will sign a 3 year x 4M contract. We signed 2 UFA goalies recently that’ve played better than Jarry. POJ is an okay prospect but we have a bunch of okay LD prospects. 2 seconds is well 2 mid to late seconds.

That's part of it. There are going to be tough decisions to be made and Burke is the guy to make those decisions and if Pittsburgh fans don't agree with one of decisions Burke is the bad guy. So yeah Burke will trade picks for the right player but the rebuild is his priority and he's not going to out and throw picks at a player who might be able to help.

so you're going to discredit the exact words that Hextall said, that they're committed to winning with this core, and still think they're going to rebuild? And Burke is on record saying multiple times that he's not a patient guy, he doesn't like rebuilds. Why do you think when he was hired to "rebuild" Toronto, he traded multiple 1st round picks and a 2nd for Kessel?

Sorry, Penguins are not rebuilding any time soon.

I definitely wouldn't go higher than 6 mil on Vrana. I'd honestly consider trading Bertuzzi in the next year or so but I don't think that's the right package.

You'll need to add a second or so if you're trying to dump DeKeyser's salary, but it won't be to Winnipeg.

So my over-riding thought is that you're coming from a different angle than Yzerman (seemingly) and the fanbase want to go. Fundamentally Detroit's pipeline is deep, but is missing that high end franchise talent.
Their needs are therefore high end talent. If you look at their drafting last year you can kinda see this. Their depth picks are high risk, high reward. As such, the main need is time, either for a draft lottery win for Wright, Lambert, Bedard, Michkov etc, or for an already drafted player to emerge.
While waiting for time, you're not really going after big ticket UFAs, so there will be some dead cap, might as well get assets for taking on bad contracts, no reason to give up assets to get rid of bad contracts. Furthermore, this affords Yzerman the ability to be patient with roster moves, the Bertuzzi trade may be ok value wise, maybe a little low, but doesn't make sense for Detroit, if im trading with Pittsburgh, I want a 1st in 22 or 23, because they could easily fall off, be a lottery team, and the asset could become an elite talent.

Granlund deal doesnt make sense. Let Fabbri, Ras and Veleno battle out for the 2/3C and I would rather see Berggren or Raymond in that winger role then Granlund if hes going to play on the wing for us. The Bertuzzi deal doesn't make sense with how well Bernier and Greiss played this year. The goal should be to resign Bernier. Also WSH gave us a 1st or a 2nd (depending on how you evaluate the Mantha- Vrana deal to take Panik. Seattle probably wants atleast a 2nd to take him.
