Is miles wood really worth a 1st rounder? Is he a third liner?

avs are not doing any Pre-Expnsion draft trades, that does not help them it actually makes them worse.

This is not a hard concept to follow along with

Canucks decline easily. Not trading that for a LW when we need defense.

VGK has no interest in trading Tuch for a pick. Locked up under contract, continuing to look better and better. No championship contender is trading key players for picks.

We also aren’t in the expansion draft so there’s no need to trade him “pre expansion”, infact if we are going to shake up the roster, you would think that they would have trades agreed to for AFTER expansion

Yes to both.
He is a bottom-six player.
But for some teams that are getting zilch from bottom-six, he is probably worth a 1st rounder.

And if they dealt a winger, wouldn't it be for an established center?
Boqvist is a center, but still developing.
All our centers are still developing, really.

No he isn‘t. But since his play this season was pretty good there was some media talk about him being traded for a high return. Again, I don‘t belive that something like this will happen but if there are GM‘s dumb enough to do it I‘d guess Benning is one of them (especially after his comments about being aggressive in the offseason).

Obviousily assuming they go 4 and 4 for the expansion draft there might be some value into trading assets you can‘t protect rather than lose them for nothing to Seattle. Just go back to 2017 and Vegas. I don‘t know if it‘ll be the Avalanche but we‘ll certainly see some of these trades in the near future.

it doesnt matter if they go 4-4 or 7-3-1.

They arent trading good players for nothing bc they will be selected. They still lose a good player despite the trade so why lose 2 players and then just get back a bunch of low end futures. Seattle can only take 1, So let them take graves then and they keep donskoi. Why would they lose a guy like Graves and trade Donskoi away for nothing? That makes 0 sense

Seattle will take their guy and thats it.

And go back to 2017.....yeah thats why Vegas is as good as they are now, GMs built their team giving guys away for nothing bc of the fear of the draft. GMs wont be that dumb his time around.

Bingo. If we are moving Tuch it shouldn’t be for anything less than Eichel, Matthews, Mcdavid, McKinnon….

Blake Coleman got a 1st. Goodrow got a 1st. Savard got a 1st. Even one month of Folingo got a 1st.
To some teams that need it, Wood could get a 1st.
To others, we'd be lucky with a 3rd.

Only need one buyer.

Avs can't even do this trade pre-expansion as it would leave them with only 1 forward exposed meeting the critieria. Unfortunately O'Connor finished 5 games short of hitting the 27GP requirement.

even more to the point. trading guys before the draft is a disservice to them. Why make more work for themselves when they dont have to

Compher and Nichushkin would fulfill the minimum exposure requirements
Kadri and Burakovsky too

those were both deadline deals with a contender if I remember correctly on small cap hit with years left miles wood not worth a first in this context especially at 2.75m. Canucks should not do this especially after missing a draft.

Kadri and Burakovsky too

Protected:
- Mackinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog, Kadri, Burakovsky, Nichuskin, Jost
- Makar, Girard, Toews
- Grubauer

Exposed meeting requirements:
- Compher, Donskoi
- Graves, MacDonald, Johnson (waives NMC or exempt due to possible career-threatening injury/concussion)
- Francouz, Miska

Also exposed without meeting requirements:
- O'Connor

As you can see the Avs only have 2 forwards who meet the exposure criteria (beyond the 7 forwards they will want to protect). Trading Donskoi or Compher would force the Avs to expose a forward they want to protect (eg. Jost) which obviously isn't ideal.
